Hi all,
I didn't drink for the month of November and felt great til I started drinking in December and noticed that it was making me feel significantly different than it used to. That's when symptoms began and progressively got worse culminating in my visit to the doctor.
I thought I had an issue with over-training from working out and severe dehydration due to randomly evolving intermittent elbow/knee/wrist/back pain (joints&ligaments), headaches (particularly on the left side of my head near "Broca's area'), and a strange tingling in my foot that seemed to be synced with my heart beat.
I received a call on New Years Eve, it turns out that I tested positive for Lymes Disease (LD). My issue now is that i have done significant research on the topic - as I'm known to do on any remotely important topic I come across - and I don't think that my doctor is nearly as knowledgeable as I am on the matter due to his prescribed treatment for me:
21 days of taking 500mg Amoxicillin 3x per day
(I will not be drinking, sadly)
While this treatment is said to be "standard" on some websites, it seems dangerously and unnecessarily insufficient as it is too short of a timeframe and too low dose for LD, let alone any possible co-infections (e.g. Ehrlichia) - the latter of which I was not tested for and cannot be treated with Amoxiciliin. I've found ILADS to be one of the most coherent and defined sources of relevant information. The Diagnostic Guideline pdf is particularly useful: http://www.ilads.org/lyme/B_guidelines_12_17_08.pdf
Anyway, I guess I've decided to post here because I was wondering what your thoughts were about my treatment and what I should do about it. Also, I would appreciate any ideas/info/feedback you share with me regarding LD or your personal experiences.
It seems that I have a somewhat mild case but I'm beginning to question whether my LD has been discovered early (as I am led to believe) or it has gone undetected for a while which may explain some anxiety, brain-fog, and sometimes irrational fear I've developed the past few years.
