A diabetes expert shares some advice.
There are a number of factors that influence how often you should see your doctor once you’ve been diagnosed with diabetes. These include:
Your health would likely benefit if you see your primary care doctor or endocrinologist at least twice a year. If you take insulin, see your doctor four times a year. Keep in mind, your primary care physician or endocrinologist is just one member (albeit an important one!) of your diabetes care team. Between visits, make sure to keep your appointments with your eye doctor, podiatrist, cardiologist and registered dietitian-nutritionist or certified diabetes educator. Checking in with specialists throughout the calendar year helps keep you motivated and on track! Don’t hesitate to contact any member of your health care team if you have a question or need an extra boost, even if it’s not time for your actual appointment.
