Foods with sugar can be a part of your diet when you have diabetes. But treats high in sugar tend to raise your blood glucose, says Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDE, CDN. “Keep portion sizes reasonable and make sure the sugar you do choose to eat is part of a balanced meal plan” she advises. “By itself, sugar is high in calories and has no vitamins or minerals, so moderation is key.”
