Understanding Type 2 Diabetes

Limit Alcohol, Don’t Smoke

Limit Alcohol, Don’t Smoke

Alcohol makes glucose control more difficult, so avoid it. If you can't resist a social drink, take special care to monitor your blood sugar in the hours that follow. Smoking will quickly drive up your risk of diabetes complications, so if you smoke, you need to quit. It won't be easy, but your doctor can help. Finally, stick to a regular schedule of physical examinations, including eye checkups and foot exams. You'll need good, regular medical care to make sure that nerve damage isn't setting in.
