Acne or bumps on legs

by Sunshine912, Feb 14, 2007 12:00AM
I have a 5 month old daughter and 2 to 3 months after the delivery, I started getting these bumps or acne that cover the top part of my legs. They are raised pimply bumps. The don't itch or bothersome. They just look terrible. They are so bad that I don't even want my husband looking at my legs. They want go away. It covers all the front of my legs. I am a fairly skinny woman and I don't sweat that much so I would say that they are definately not heat bumps. I have never had them in my life so I am wondering if this is a postpartum thing. Has any one had this problem?

I have them as well and cannot figure out how to treat them!  Like you, I had a daughter in October.  After about 2 months I developed the bumps on the front of my thighs.  Like you said, they don't itch - I thought at first it was dry skin, so I put lotion on but I felt like that was making it worse so I stopped putting anything on my thighs but they're still there.  It sounds like it might be a postpartum thing, but I have no idea when and if it will go away on it's own.

It would be unusual to have acne vulgaris on the front of your legs. The face, chest and back are normally affected. However, it could be caused by hormones as you've both experienced this after delivery. It is difficult to suggest a diagnosis from your description. I would go to your doctor. Please let us know his diagnosis and subsequent treatment as this is an interesting question. Good luck, Loiloi x

This is classic Keratosis Pilaris, and yes, it is hormonal, chronic, and treatable. The treatment is over the counter, a lotion called AmLactin, about $17 at Walmart. It takes awhile to work, so start now, and you'll be in good shape for summer. I had this too after the birth of my son, and it is gone, now. Oh, make sure it is ok to use the lotion if you are nursing. Good luck!
