Past drug abuse and possible impacts to future pregnancy

by Lee Mi2, Oct 10, 1999 12:00AM
What possible impacts are there to unborn children if:

1) mother smoked pot occasionally for 2-3 years (daily for 3 months, then maybe once or twice a year the rest of the time), last time about 5 years ago, and took mescaline once about 15 years ago.

2) father was addicted to alcohol, narcotics, pot, pain killers - no heroin for about 15 years.  Clean and sober 2 years.

Over the past 6 years my husband and I have smoked pot on a regular basis, recently (within the last 10 months) we have been also abusing cocaine.  We have stopped the cocaine and slowing down on marijuana.  We are wanting to have a child, what are the risks of becoming pregnant within the next year? Should we wait and why? Thanks

If you are off the cocaine when you conceive, there should be no ill effect from your prior use.  The marijuana is in question as to whether smoking moderate amounts during pregnancy will affect the fetus.  Best idea is to quit that too.
