Opiate Withdrawl How Long

I am getting ready to stop taking Norco after a long period.  I know there will be physical withdrawls, but when will they peak and how long will they last?  The worst is the body aches.  Will plain old Motrin help with those?

My girl friend is exprinecing aches, nausea, and tempture. Had surgery 6 weeks ago, disk fusion. And had been taking NORCO, after vicodin no longer worked! And has been put back on Vicodin 750. What can she do? E-Mail address==> Mr.***@****

I recently got out of rehab were I was detoxed off of heroin.  My detox took about 4 days and those days were hell.  I was sick, shaking, sneezing, and I could not sleep if my life depended on it.  After that I was ok.  It is more in your mind after you get detoxed though.  If you think you feel like you are going through withdrawl symptoms then you will.  The only thing is I still have a hard time sleeping.

I am a opiate addict I have decided it is time to get off the pills please help incurage me and pray for me I am dead serious about not using anymore Besides i can no longer get it anymore. Tommorow will be my first day I have gone through withdrawls before but never longer than a day. Please pray for me and wish me the best of luck

I wish you all the best; however, if you are "quitting" because you can't get the pills anymore and not because you WANT to quit, you will fail.  You need to find a better reason and get support or you are doomed to failure.

I have been taking Tylenol #4 for about 5-6 months now. My question is How long do you think I will suffer from withdrawl symptoms? I would ussaly take between 3-10 pills a day. Any info you have for me would be greatly appreciated.

I am quiting for myself. I made it to where I could no longer get the pills. It has been 3 days now with nothing. I am still suffering withdrawls but I just keep telling myself it will get better. I quit cold turkey . And decided to do it here at home.

I am using motrin it helps a little If anyone has any suggestions as what works well that is over the counter I would really appreciate it the aches drive me insane. I can barley take it. This is the hardest thing I have ever done.

Good news, the first 3 days is the roughest.  It gets progressively easier and ends after about 7-10 days.  You can make it.  No non-narcotic meds really work well for the aches.  Take some hot baths, they do help and tend to also relax you.  Drink lots of fluids, take some short walks if you can stand to.  Remember, it's all downhill from here UNLESS you take more pills.  Take care.  Brian

I am into my 2nd day of detoxing off of oxycontin. I have done this before, but my chronic pain keeps dragging me back! I had my arm torn off at the shoulder 3 years ago, and did some devastating damage to the brachial plexus.(pretty much tore it in half) so my doc keeps upping my dosage, and pretty soon I am getting sick from them. So the other night(thurs) I flushed the balance of my script down the toilet and am paying the price! I have found that nyquil liqua-caps  help a little. Also I have lots of liquids. Benadryl can help keep the sneezing down. I will post again tomorrow..................

I was discharged from hospital on Tuesday evening, following treatment for acute small-bowel obstruction.  I was administered a PCA containing morpine sulphate.  The PCA was removed on the day of my discharge with no 'weening off'.  It is now Thursday.  I feel terible.  Last night I could not sleep, my joints ache, I ahve a cold sweat, a headache & can't stop shaking.  I think that I may be in withdrawl.



I have some Buscapan here that I take to help with perastalitic spasms.  I notice that you suggest that anti-spasmodics may offer some relief during withdrawl.  Is the buscapan likely to help, and how long do you suppose my syptoms may last?

i have had no opiates since wed morning,the pain is excrutiating but the feelings of depression anxiety not feeling like myself abdominal pain diarrhea and not knowing if im gonna make the break is the worst.i used otc meds for a long time before doc put me on vicodin none worked ,i need to have surgical removal of a problem and i do know that i can't do that without opiate pain meds, so am i stupid to stop now. i just hate the feeling of "not being able to live without a substance. i'm a recovering alcoholic three and a half years since my last drink,so of course my suppot group says just dont take the pills .i've never taken opiates before nor stopped obviously.does anyone know if i will return to feeling "normal mentally"?

You need to start a new post...you've posted on an old thread from 2000.  The worst part of the withdrawal will be over in about 5 days...you should be at day 4 or so now.  Hang in there.  You're on the downhill slope as far as the withdrawals are concerned.  Unfortunately, as an addict, any addictive substance is likely to be a problelm for you.  Sometimes, though, you have to have pain medication.  I would talk to your doctor, explain your addiction history, and proceed with extreme caution and under microscopic supervision.  If possible, I would try to go home from the possible with non-narcotic pain medication.  That's just my opinion...I'm sure others will jump in here who have a lot more experience than I do.  Good luck!  If you need anything, you'll find a lot of support here and people who will answer any questions you have.

when does the REAL withdrawls start is it after 2 days or what ....haven't had methadone or oc 4 about 4-5 days feelin real *h*tty....so any answers 4 how long this will last????

I know the feeling of not being able to live without a substance.  I feel like my memory has suffered, my physical condition, my relationships, and more because of opiates.  I still love the feeling they give me, but I am dead set on stopping the physical addiction.  Working out helps alot by the way.  It helps your body to produce natural endorphins that have been replaced by the opiates.  Day 3 is the worst for me.  I have quit several times but keep going back.  Now I have moved and lost my contacts and also erased their numbers from my phone.  I obtained enough medicine to try and ween myself off by taking little bits to ease the withdrawls, but to quit....you absolutely have to WANT TO.  That is the most important part and I am at that point now.  The second most important part is to resist temptation.  Good luck to myself and everyone else out there.

im on day three...........it will get better have faith believe in yourself nothing is worth going back especially allof the pain you have to endure! Lucky im not an addict but everyone in my family is i had to get of after a hysterctomy i just had and im doing better than the first two days your almost there! Well if you are going to detox I hope you know you will have to give your body something to compensate. Take no apirine or no caffiene because what doctors won't tell you or if you already know, they are irritants. Take Zannax, this will help you sleep. You will not have any energy to do something dumb on bars if that is your worry. Most doctors will prescribe Zannax to you to help you coast through your detox. It is unnatural for your body to do a rapid detox and very expensive ($9,000 to $20,000). Of course your body will feel great compared to what you were feeling, but those procedures can be immitated. First things first, a good cleansing. Trick your body by taking Niacin, yes it is a terrible thing to take even when you are not on anything, but take half one dose and the next in fifteen minutes. Niacin will open up your fatty capularies which stores our body garbage and expells the waste from your capularies. Your skin will burn and swell, that means it is working. This is not a quick fix, the next thing you would want to do is take two multi vitamines  after the burning and redness and swelling has subsided for you lost a lot of nutriance using Niacine and your body will crave that more than the hydrocodone for a short short time. Basically after you have eaten the multi-vitamines your body will obsorb it rapidy and forget about the other agent it is addicted to or in some cases needs because your body isn't producing it's natural pain killer, due to you feeding it from another source. As many have told you before, liquids. Prefferably milk, that will help you store fat which also helps your body fight fatigue. Milk will also help that acidy feeling in your stomache. EAT!!!! If you starve yourself because you have no appetite, you have no appetite because your body is eating itself, and you have no electrolites to remind yourself you need more. Snacking is key. No small snacks but a good size snack. Eat some Zannax shortly after you have taken your vitamines and if available Somas. If you are comfortable with it smoke pot. It is not addictive, there is no links to lung
