Developing Alcohol intolerance?

by Jim Breedon, Nov 12, 1999 12:00AM
I have been a moderate social drinker for over twenty years and have never had problems drinking unless I over-induldeged.  Within the past 6 months I have had 3 occasions to drink light to moderate amounts  of alcohol (beer on one occasion, bourbon & water on the other two ocasions).  All three times I have developed severe hangover symptoms in a short period of time.  One occasion, I woke up feeling fine but as the day progressed I was almost incapacitated.  This is resulting from light to moderate drinking (2-3 drinks in 3-4 hours...usually with food).

I spent 20 years in the military and have done my share of drinking and know when I should be cutting back and when I can expect to "pay the piper"

I've had gall bladder surgery 10 years ago and last year developed severe abdominal pain that could not be diagnosed but resolved on it's own.  I was found to have a hemangeoma (sp?) on my liver but was told it was nothing serious.

Is this something I should concern myself with?  If it's a common thing, I can live with it but I'm wondering if perhaps I should see my Dr. about a follow up.

Thanks for any help.  I'm really curious as I've never heard of this happening before.

It appears to me that I am born with this condition. Evena small drink of 30 ml can have me in bed the next morning. My mother has a full-blown alcohol allergy.

Is there a cure to my ailment.
