Pain relief, replacing one narcotic after another

by Jonie, Dec 09, 1999 12:00AM
Dear Doctor:

I was addicted to Lorcet 10 for over 4 years.  I suffer from fibromyalgia and severe migraines, anxiety and sinus problems.  My life was fine with the Lorcets, xanax and claratin d until my doctor said no more pain killers.  He offered me neurontin and the claratin and a anti inflamatory that killed my stomach.  Now he gives me tylenol 3's occasionally I know it's also addictive and I am addicted to pain pills but can't get through the day without them.  I want off of them but don't want to suffer.  I never tried the neurontin because I heard it was for seizures.  Current meds are t-3's ,xanax and claratin d  can I safely add the neurontin w/out any adverse actions.  When I'm out of pain killers my life is miserable, I suffer and so does my family.  I have alot of responsibilites and can't stop.  Please advise.  Thank-you.

Hang in there....detox is hell but it's worth it. Good luck. Neurontin helps with the pain from my 8 back surgeries. It is good stuff if you can get over the mental obsession with the narcotics and give it an honest chance.

Good Luck

My wife has had fibromyalgia and severe migraines for a few years now.  She finally saw a neurologist and was put on Depakote.  She takes 4 x 250mg a day.  It has been remarkable.  She's been having a lot more good days and a lot fewer bad days.  She also takes Amerge at the first sign of a migraine.  She claims that it takes longer to act the Imatrix.  But Imatrix just seems to postpone the migraine for her.  I wish you well.

Does anyone know where I can find an in patient chronic pain treatment program that will also help me get off these pain med.'s?  I only have medicare and no money.  I am alone without any support system to speak of.  I also suffer with depression so's I get suicidal from the stress of withdrawal.
it's a mess but I know my God has something in mind it's just tough if you have to wait till your financially fit to afford the help.
Any leads to a good treatment program would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks All...!!

iwas taking oxycodone.but because of past alcohol problems a pain specialist put me on methadone.it doesn't reward the central nervous system like oxy, hydrocodone etc.,so it's alot harder to abuse.it gives you steady pain relief.methadone also is alot cheaper.contact my doc..his name is dr davies.you can e-mail him at ***@**** .he's really helped me.i don't feel any major side effects.i'm just not in misery.i can function.,

I took hydrocodone for a year straight..have lower back pain and was tired of getting cortizone shots. At first it was only for the daily back pain to get me through my public seminar tour on the West coast, then it turned into take one at 9 Am at home on the weekends because, now I just needed them. I'm on day 4 now and feel like I am ging nutz! cant get anything done and am hoping that the desire will go away and the ability to focus without feeling some body numbing affect. You all know what I mean! wow its hard, but we all remember how we felt before pain and painkillers....at least thats what I hope

You are replying to a post that is almost 10 years old.. NO ONE CAN ON THESE OLD THREADS!!!  Here is what you need to do..

Go to the top of the page and click on the "post a question"  It will ask for a title for what you are needing help with, or needing to talk about..

Then tell us you drug of choice-- how much you take, how long, why, everything you would like us to know,, the better we can help with more info..

Then it will have a spot to enter in "key words" that is so that when people type in lets say addiction, or vicodin, percoset, lorcet whatever, it will pop up your question.. You understand?  I hope you figure it out.. There is ALOT of awesome people on this site that are going through what you are, or have already been through it and can help you figure out ways to get through hard times..  Take the time to get honest and open up!  NO ONE WILL JUDGE YOU!!

Hi there how are you today??  Wierd thread huh?  Did you have a good new year?

I am addicted to Percocet 7.5 and as most addicts do I run out before it's time for a refill.  I have not become very resourceful yet in finding ways to deal w/ this problem i.e. another source for pills etc..  So now I am basically having a crappy weekend going through withdrawal and looking for anything in the med cabinet to ease it.  So far I have found butalbital and I have Xanax but don't like it much for it's sleepy tendencies.  Anyone with some advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.  I might add that I have perm nerve damage to the thorasic nerve so in addition to withdrawal I am also suffering from some considerable pain.  I always say I will do better with the next prescription (take as directed) but I have developed a tolerance after a 1year and 1/2 of use so it's harder to stick to.  HELP!

If you have developed a tolerance than your DR should know about this as well, and should be increasing your dosage amounts..  If they arent then that means you just cant stick to the directed amount for whatever reason really doesnt matter.. Due to the simple fact is that you are abusing the pills, and running out early means that you are going to go through withdrawls.. Percoset is one of my favorite pain meds..  So I can relate..  As far as the xanax making you sleepy, you better prey for them to put you to sleep, because when you are going through withdrawl you CANNOT SLEEP- usually even taking xanax, klonopin whatever..  If you haven't found ways to get other pills other ways then I suggest you have a sit down with the DR and just be VERY OPEN AND HONEST! Alot of the time they appricate that as apposed to the lies and deciept!  If he ups the dosage then there ya go problem solved right?  But if he says no go, then you have to either take them as directed or keep abusing them and learn how to deal iwht getting
