| Nathan Sheffield England 4/10/2000 | . | I have just started a naltrexone progam with my doctor. I want to know if any users have ever experienced any unpleasantness or side effects from it and also, is short term use (3-4months) addictive? I have asked my doctor but she was very vague. I have been through a naltrexone detox before but it lasted 5 days and I cant remember much about it as I was mostly sedatated. |

My addiction kept telling me I was gonna' get my leg cut off at work or something stupid like a car wreck and I'd not be able to get any results from pain control...so I replaced the Naltrexone with NA meetings....worked so far....2yrs and counting. | Brighty to Nathan 4/10/2000 C4 | . | If you are on naltrexone implants to assist you in staying off heroin be VERY careful. There are a notable number of deaths of addicts who chose to use with the implants in. They were unable to get any high and ultimately overdosed. Sounds like a stupid thing to do but then again there is no real logic to heroin use either. This information is true and has been on national news programs. One prominent NJ doctor has been asked to stop the rapid detox and the naltrexone implants until further studies are comleted. He has complied. |
| Nathan sheffield England 4/11/2000 C6 | . | thanks 4 the input. I am receiving oral tablets of NALTREXONE and I am very aware of the dangers of trying to overcome the blockade. I am also very weary of being in a situation where I may require analgesia. I want to take NALTREXONE because I wont touch opiates while im on it.Sounds like just a matter of willpower, eh? I asked the question because yesterday my arms felt like they were gonna drop off. I feel alright today. I was told the oral form of NAL takes around 10 days before you feel ok. |
| Terri A 4/23/2000 C7 | . | One thing to consider is that Naltrexone is contraindicated for those with liver disease. Beware! If you haven't been tested for Hepatitis C, you should do so. This disease is reaching epidemic levels. MOST IV-drug using individuals have it. |
| Mojo 5/11/2000 C8 | . | I second that motion! When I got off of methadone, I was in an inpatient setting the second time and was prescribed naltrexone. On the second day I became very very ill with intense pain in my right lower side, right where my liver is. I also started to vomit. I refused the medication. Nedless to say years later I was diagnosed with Chronic Hep C and have since gone through interferon/ribovirin Rx and am in a sustained remission. It is obvious I bacame so sick with the naltrexone because of my liver disease. I find it amazing the in-patient rehab did not test me for Hep C in 1991 when the test had just come out. They knew I had a history of IVDU. Hep C is an epidemic now. I am currently in a support group and 30% of people don't even know how they got it. They have no history of IV drug use or blood to blood contact. When I was on the methadone clinic they found in a study 91% of their clients tested positive for HEP C! Frightening! Peace, Mojo |
| Mullac from Aberdeen,Scotland 9/3/2000 C9 | . | I have been on Naltrexone for almost six weeks now and have found it an extremely useful aid in the psychological battle to stay off heroin.The only unpleasent side effect for me personally was quite intense stomach pain which may simply have been the result of my digestive system returning to normal.Apart from this I have nothing but praise for the programme as it acts as a reassurance when your willpower falters as knowing that you will not get a hit ultimately prevents you from using.I also agree with the earlier comments about attempting to overcome the block, it will NOT work and care should be taken no matter how great the temptation.Anyway big love to you all, take it a day at a time and stay strong as it DOES get better and, to state the obvious, life is amazing without that **** in a spoon they call heroin.PEACE. |
