Stuck

I seem to be stuck on my tapering schedule.  I'm taking 5 mg. valium at night, up to 10 mg once in a while after a bad day. If I take less, it's just the same as taking nothing at all. I'm running out and since I'm doing this with medical supervision because I can't afford it, what will happen when I stop completely. At this small a dosage, will the WD be mild? I keep having this recurring nightmare that I'm going psycho from the WD and the phones won't work and I can't dial 911. So even though I'm not psycho (matter of opinion :-), this is my 911 call. I have a couple of Xanax left (1mg) but that would defeat the whole purpose if I took those, right? And where is Frankie Lee.  He hasn't been on the board.  Haven't heard anymore from the neo hippie kid that wants to be a speed freak either. We original hippies used the rationale that drugs were "mind expanding," but we also had a saying "Speed kills." And now I'm off a tangent that has nothing to do with my original question.

hey, can't help you on your tapering dilemma, but I think your right about the zanax. Sounds like you'd be defeating the purpose. I'm trying to think of something else the dr. could prescribe for sleep. I take robaxin for sleeping and fibramyalgia. As far as I know, no ones ever stated different, this is safe. But I hope all works out for you. I've been wondering about Frank Lee too. And yeah the 'kid' ain't he a blast from the past. There's a reason people say hindsight is 20/20 or if I knew then what I know now. But as is typcal he'll have to figure it out for his self. Maybe he won't do too much damage.  Bye

Your withdrawls shouldn't be that bad but you may feel a little strange at times afterwards.Like your sleeping may be uneasy at times and possible spans of feeling nervous. The way your doing it is the best way with the very least amount of uneasyness possible. You can do,sounds like you got the hardest part behind you anyway.Good luck....Yankee fan

Hi Folks,

Shotsy - got your email and appreciate it. I agree with you completely and didn't know if you wanted me to reply - but write me any time, I enjoy receiving your mail and your presence on the board is appreciated.

Kuebestin,

I am still trying to get your freewheelin to you, hold on : --).

I just don't understand why you are having the problems with Valium at that dose. First of all you are physically very healthy based on your post about your exercise schedule and secondly, your doc is working with you on tapering, right? I know I sound like a broken record, but why do you want to get off this small dose if it helps you? Also, please don't take this the wrong way, but do you maybe have some issues that a therapist could help you with? Listen, I am a guy who is seeing 2 shrinks so believe me this is a sincere query. Again, are you trying the HTP? And finally, maybe a small dose of Xanax is what you should be on -it is very good for sleeping. Just keep working with you doc and posting. And hang in there. If this is just a physiological vs. psychological thing, the symptoms should pass. It is also not unusual for psychological issues to come up once you stop a sedative, so this may be an opportunity to "feel" again and grow. Best of luck to you.

And I have been posting fairly regularly, but will be quite tied up the next two weeks so you may not see me as much. But believe me, there is more than enough empathy and talent on this board to make up for the 49 year old perfect master, Valium hubby and relapse ridden hack.

Yours,

FLee

Sure reply's are great. That's one of the frustrating things about this forum for me. Sometimes I ask a question and I REALLY do want an answer,an it doesn't come. But I've noticed that's the sort of ebb and  flow of it. So I've gotten use to it. I hope everything is  okay with  you? So feel free to email me. All I've been getting lately is junk so I get really  excited when someone takes the time to write me. Geez ,I should take  that to heart myself, I need to write some folks. Maybe I'd get more mail.Bye for now,Shotsy

Kstuebin: I kind of agree with Frank Lee about why you or your doctor want to take you completely off of the Valium.  5 or 10 mg. is not that much.  As long as you don't feel any tolerance building up.  In my experience, and this might have just been me, Xanax was the worst because it was quick acting, and when it wore off I felt worse than ever.  I take Klonopin, which is longer acting than Valium.  I have been about 52 days clean from alcohol but the rehab and my psych worked with me to decide to reduce to .5 mg. of Klonopin 2 to 3 times a day (I think .5 Klonopin is similar to 5 mg. of Valium).  Upon discharge from rehab my psych agreed that there would be no harm on staying on the same dose of Klonopin "for the rest of my life if necessary", as long as I don't begin to up the dosages. I am adamant that without some type of medication of this nature I would be hitting the bottle.

Maybe you can switch to Klonopin.  I took .5 mg. about 12 hours ago and I feel completely comfortable and mentally healthy.  Hope this helps - I wish you luck. Sometimes thinking of how bad you might feel without the pills is worse than anything!  Believe me, I know.

Hey - just read your post in the Daniel thread, man you were much more succint and calm than I. Congradulations on that. I lost about a score of my hotmail correspondence when my son was downloading Jimi Hendrix from morpheus during a thunderstorm. He's 16, I'm told this is normal :-/. Anyway, you can send me again or whatever. I am just amazed at how the good folks came out of the woodwork today and nailed the binladen of medhelp. This group really gives me a lot. I logged on today and was looking just to see how everyone was, and maybe for some insights and I read that damn post and just over reacted. You know I think that the 80-90% of the normal folks out there have their synapses just firing away fine and don't freak out like me. Not that their lives are any easier and, oddly enough, I really woudln't change my life for anyone elses, flawed as the 49 year old perfect master is. But the point is, the ebb and flow for the 'normal' is what I think I would like to have. Not this damned around the clock craving.

Anyway Shotsy, you've got mail anytime you want - just send again and have a good evening.
