Side effects/Please Help!!!

by xiola, Dec 03, 2001 12:00AM
I am a 30 year old female, and since Wednesday I have been on a binge abusing oxycontin (20 mg pills) & methampetamines.  I chew up the oxy & snort the speed.  Needless to say I have not eaten since Wednesday morning & have not had a bowel movement since Wednesday morning.  My first question:  Are there serious health risks that result from not having bowel movements for 5 days?  If so, what are they?  Also, I have been drinking quite a bit of water, but am having difficulty urinating.  My bladder will be totally full, but I have ALOT of trouble relaxing my detrusor muscle.  Is this a side effect of either drug?  I have experienced this urination problem in the past, but only while I am sexually aroused – could this be a side effect of either drug or a sign of another health problem.  And lastly, the oxycontin causes me to itch all over & I can’t help but to scratch, but I awoke Friday morning with an extraordinary amout of bruises all up & down my legs – does oxycontin cause one to bruise easily?  I find it strange that the bruises are only on my legs & buttocks though, since I was scratching my entire body.  I experienced this same leg bruising event back in August after binging on oxy – I was paranoid that it could be a serious health problem & had complete blood work done & the results returned normal.  I also take 40 mg of Paxil daily (which I believe can cause one to bruise easily) – so could it be an interaction of the oxy/paxil combination?  If not should I consult my physician again about the bruises?  One more comment/question:  I was at the OBGYN in October & was informed there was a trace amount of protein in my urine.  What does that mean, and what is the cause/seriousness?  I would appreciate your insight and response to all of my questions.  Any feedback from others who may have had similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for letting me share.

Xiola, I wish I could answer your questions..but I am not a doctor, just a fellow addict who comes here for support staying clean.   You've got a lot of medical questions, so the only thing I can recommend is see a doctor and come clean with what you took and get medical advise.

I do know that yes, it can cause serious problems to not have a bowel movement in 5 days. You can get impacted, and that can spell trouble. I'd definately recommend you take a laxative such as milk of magnesia, or a good stool softner, or metamucil, to get things moving again.

The itching is a side effect of all opiates, as far as I know. I don't know if opiates cause bruising or urinary difficulty...but it sounds like a medical exam might be important for you.

Sorry I can't help more..good luck.

I agree with witchywomen, a lot of your questions need to be answered by a professional.

I am also a fellow addict.  My two cents:

The urination problems you are experiencing are a direct results from the oxycontin.  It's the opiate in the drug that makes it much more difficult to urinate.  Try putting on the water.  Another way would be to stand up, then sit and try again.  Stand up, and sit and try again.  After just consuming oxys, it's very difficult isn't it.  The farther away from using, it gets easier doesn't it?

With bowel movements, i've recently tried milk of magnesea at night, and stool softners (no laxative in them), take two a night.  This has helped me tremedously.  Plus water water water, drink lots of it and try increasing your fiber in your diet.

The bruising has me baffled, i've never encountered that, and I don't ich either.  I've iched from codiene and it's possible you might have a slight allergy to oxycodene, the ingredient in the oxys.

Good luck and be safe, oxycontin is a very strong drug to play around with.  I'm in the same boat, so i'm not judging you, only hoping that you are careful!

A good healthy remedy for constipation is dried apricots.  They are not cheap but they taste better then the other stuff and they work great.  I agree you should see a Dr.  the effect of the oxy's and the speed, I don't know.  A good nights sleep, some home cooking, some vitamins may make a big difference.  The itching is the opiates but the bruising could be from the meth. anyway, best of luck - Telby

ww & jenny,

thx for ur responses.  it's been an irritable 2 days of no drugs - not even any pot to take the edge off.  today i was finally able to eat, but still no bowel movement - i just wonder how long is too long b4 i should seek med. attention to that. funny how we can poison ourselves w/ out a second thought, but then when something goes wrong we suddenly care about our health status!!!  (i say this while suckin down a cigarette - ha ha)

good luck to both of u w/ fighting ur demons.

Xiola- Paxil does indeed cause you to bruise easily. I have a 23 yr old son on Paxil. He is a big strapping boy but if you so much as pinch him he gets a bruise that looks like someone beat the **** out of him. He is only on 20mg a day. He recently got ( another!) tattoo and the ink artist told him he was somewhat reluctant to ink someone on Paxil due to the slowed coagulation of blood due to Paxil. You need to see a doc about the protein in your urine which could be due to a number of things, dietary intake, diabetes even, so see one soon! The constipation can lead to impaction and to have them clean you out in ER is NO fun, hurts like hell not to mention the indignity! Hang around here and you will find much support and love. Take care.

Itching may be due to generic drug. I have the same symptom with generic percocet. ITCHING! Brand name percocet-no itching. lisa

I too have experienced leg brusing when I have taken Oxycotin. I assume it is some rare side effect. If you hear anything on it, please advise. As I will do the same.

Being a "suthern" girl, I have discovered the treatment for constipation - Okra!  That's right...it works like a charm!  Better than any laxative I've ever taken.  Get it frozen at the store (whole, not sliced) and boil it in a saucepan with about an inch of water over the okra.  Cook it until it is "fork tender" then drain, put butter, salt and pepper and enjoy.  It's full of fiber and the "slimy" stuff is a fantastic laxative!  Natural remedy!

As for the bruising, I, too, get bad bruises on my legs if I scratch too much.  I've always attributed that to the fact that I have Lupus, but who knows.  I also ALWAYS have trace amounts of protein in my urine.  I know that dehydration can cause this, but so can lots of other things.  If it is a persistent problem I would definately try to get with a doctor who can get to the root of it.

Good luck to you.  If you need help with stopping the addiction, you've come to the right place.

Peace
