i hope everyone has a great and restfull thansgiving.
gratitude is the purist wisdom.
being grateful is one of the most important things i have learned in recovery.
i spent a lot of time before recovery being ungrateful,
i learned in recovery to focus on the positive, as an addict
we have the tendency to look at all the bad things that happen to us. of course this is a weight we don't need to carry.
recovery is a process of simplefication, keep it simple.
live just for today. do what we can today, take small steps
twards our goals. we always want to get better yeasterday.
we did not get where we are in one day, so it take time to get better. this day of thanks is a day we should keep close to our heart, like thanks that we are still alive and still have our freedom, we need to be grateful that we have the desire to get better. we have people who care about us.
this fourm has been a great place to find answers and people
who are going through the same problems. people who share the
experence strength and hope.
this is a place of hope.
thanks to everyone here who has helped me and everyone else. we help each other.
peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you are very nervous about running out of pills, but listen: if you are going away for the whole week, then by the time you get back, you will be through the worst of the withdrawal!! Are you staying in a hotel? If you are, bring a bottle of tub cleaner, clean out the tub really good, and spend your free time during the week in the bath. Also, hotels have really good movie channels so even if you are up all night with RLS, you will be able to watch TV. Then when you get back, you will be able to sleep a little, and be somewhat normal! What do you do for work? Something where you have to be alert or talk with people? If that is the case, then talk with your doctor and ask about some safe sleeping pills for the week, just so you can get some sleep. And stay away from coffee. When I went through w/d I could not sleep at night so during the day I drank coffee to be more alert, and it made me even more anxious!! Good luck and I will pray for you. The bible says to pray and you will be answered, and that is true!!!!!! I got through a week of midterms(I am in college) going through horribe withdrawals, rls, etc and I did well on all of them. You CAN and WILL do it!!!!!
Maybe you should consider taking the week off (IF POSSIBLE) and hiding behing a case of the flu. or a family emergency, which you just had with the death of your friend. I know exactly how you feel, I was there last weekend.
You have several options:
1) Tough it out while on the road - this may be a bad idea, without access to your regular routine and your general doctor. But if you really get bad, you may be able to get the local ER to write you something to get you through the week, or have your doc phone it in. Then work on this when you get back.
2) cancel the trip to go see the addictionologist - get some pro advice and help
3) Inpatient detox (not sure if this is possible for you)
We are here for you, and will be through next week. Whatever you decide, please pray like you never have before, and ask God for His Grace and Love.
You will be in my prayers. If you are not able to function, try and put yourself first and work second. This is the way you would want it if you were the boss right, and you had an amployee in your shoes. Take care of yourself...
Lots of love and prayers,
Rex
Today, you won.

I think you feel alot better if you don't get "high" and use only what is necessary to get you by until you can see the therapist and make a plan. We all need support for this one. Before, during and after. There is no reason to feel desperate. Easy does it ..... Goldie
i'm scared, i've gotten myself into a bad fix. i'm going to try to take only what i need and get through it. while i'm at the hotel, i can sleep and rest. just so long as i can put the act on while i'm working. you guys are so very sweet and i'll do the best i can do. i've never felt like this before at all, but it's so good to have you guys. you understand so much. i'll be in touch. and i'll be thinking about all of you, too. i know i'm not the only one with problems. love to all of you.
In other words, while on your trip, take your medication in moderation, don't drift high or low, just try and exists in the mediums as far as dosages.
Also, as Mike said, don't allow yourself to think beyond today OK? Just do what you can do today, one foot in front of the other for today.
We'll worry about next week, next week!

I have been watching Band of Brothers, an HBO special directed and written by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, and is available at all major video stores for rental. It's a six volume set on DVD.
Without ruining it for everyone, I'll just say it is the true story of Easy company, within the 101st Airborne division during WWII, circa 1942-1944.
After watching what these guys went through, it has put my situation in perspective. My thinking went something like this, although I am sure yours will vary. Again, this is just MY view on it, and I am not saying any of you should or will react this way.
"So let's see, all of these guys died, gave up their lives, widowed their wives, so I can be free in this country to do.. to do.. what? Get my little buzz, feel good for an hour, do my little designer drug thing. They spent an entire winter getting shelled, losing legs, arms, sight, while trying to keep from freezing to death, and my Hot tub is not quite doing the job on my back pain. Yeah things have been tough, but do I know real hardship? If they can do that, I can certainly do this!"
This series has been an incredible distraction for me, which has taken my mind off of things. But it has, for me, confirmed that I need to be tough, be strong, and in my case, realize how good I have it, even with the back pain. Compared with these guys, I'm living a walk in the park.
Many of us here have serious pain, but many are just supporting a habit. Check out this story if you think it will help with the "big picture" as it helped me.
And I hope I haven't trivialized anyboby's situation with this seemingly simple suggestion. I guarantee it will put your attention on something else, even if for just a little while.
