how bad are the headaches

by AmberHunter, Apr 28, 2003 12:00AM
i believe one of the active ingredients in NyQuil is acetaminophen so it stands to reason that you could be having headaches... i am sure the doc will pop in here and give you a more definate answer!

how much NyQuil were you ingesting every evening??? i don't know how much alcohol you were getting every night by taking it suppose that could have something to do with it...

why were you drinking NyQuil in the first place? cold symptoms or enjoyment? if it was for enjoyment why not just drink vodka or some other form of alcohol, just wondering!

good luck and let us know how you are doing!

The other thread is closed so I am butting on this one-(pls excuse me Friday)

OK, I had to come home at lunch to check out the threads. Peaz, my honey's name is Rick. Where/when can we hear the song???? (:>)) I am on day 5, Rick is on day 8 or 9????

Mystere, loved the Monday's always suck anyway thing! Boy does this one. Someone made the comment that I didn't seem as peppy as normal. OMG, I about pooped my pants when she said that. If it wasn't for the Imodium I probably would have....

I thought the pills were making me dumb, man today is like learning things all over again-complete new pair of glasses-blurry ones, but things will come back to me, soon right? I feel "fuzzy" very, very "fuzzy". If I am not better later this week they are going to have to send me back to college!

Hope everyone is having a great day! See ya this evening!

Don't go and register at Harvard just yet! Give it a few more days!  Believe me i know that "walking around in sort of a daze feeling"  Once this day is over and the fact that you made it through will be an awesome feeling!  I was in the OK-WHAT NOW? stage this weekend--Not alot of pep-not quite sure of what I was supposed to do!  I am DAY 8--Well I sort of just went with the flow so to speak and everything turned out fine.  Today I feel Great!--There will be ebb and flows in our emotions while our poor mistreated bodies recover--Stay the course I'll check in with you at home (as Mystere)--You are on your way!  Much Love/Peace/ and Prayers--N.O. Lady

may I ask a question? Why Nyquil? what possible pleasurs can you get from it? no offense badd

by whatitistoburn, Apr 28, 2003 12:00AM
I know a lot of people from AA that used Nyquil to catch a buzz. And if you drink enough of it, you do get quite a buzz! The ones I know in AA who used it, thought it was OK because it wasn't real alcohol! Give me a break!

one bottle of NyQuil every 5 to 7 days??? are you serious???

maybe you are highly sensitive to medications or something... i can't imagine having any problem coming off of one bottle of NyQuil every 5 to 7 days for three months... poor thing...

i will leave this to someone who has a better understanding of an addiction or whatever it may be to this medication...

either way, good luck and hope you are feeling better!!!

And down this way.. the Christian Youth groups drink it en route to help the heathens in Haiti convert to Christianity. Yup. Hate to see those 18 Y.O. lose sleep on the bus rides to FL to save those souls. Another 2 step: Get yr Nyquil and yr bus seat.

Just checking in on you Ms Gracie! Hopefully the Monday from Hell is over and you are home with your honey safe and sound.  Give yourself a big pat on the back for making it through and I guarantee tomorrow will be much better! I know what it feels like to wake up on that first Monday, having to go to work without those precious pills--But guess what I discovered--Millions of people do it everyday without the so-called help of chemical imducements.  Every day my head is becoming clearer and more focused.  Keep the faith Babe we're all in this together-Love to you and your family (INcluding your dogs)--I have a one eyed dog I rescued from the SPCA--One day I'll have to tell you THAT story-Peace Prayers Mystere/AKA N.O. Lady

OK, well, I must now admit, that I am living proof that you do not DIE on the first Monday back to work w/o your tabs!!! :>) Did not even get thru the first 100 or 201 e-mails, but did manage to approve quite a stack of paperwork, that was the easy part, I still can remember how to initial documents. hehhehhehe

I think I am just feeling absolutely goofy, I am finding things so funny, I am not glued to my pc at work, I was actually gabbing with my employees/co-workers on occassion (not something I usually do-strictly business), honestly probably trying to hide that I was a BIG FUZZ BALL. But honestly, feeling much better (CAUTION: for the moment- I am not going to get on that PINK cloud to come crashing down) Rick, seems to have less energy than me today. My energy didn't come back until around 2, and guess what I did not even notice that I "missed" my 4 o'clock tab. (what a shame)hehehheh-see I am just goofy tonight. Why? I think I am honestly ELATED to have come this far (I know its only 5 days). Did I tell you with the $$$ we will save in the next 6 mos. we are going to be able to pay for a trip to Hawaii?

Seriously, I do want to share something, if you are a heavy smoker and you quite tabs, please prepare yourself for the chest pain, I believe the tabs have numbed that problem for a while and actually caused me to increase my smoking, which now led me to purchase my new NICITROL inhaler, but I will deal with that habit tomorrow- day 6 and NO tabs. Oh YEAH!!!!

OK, I will shut up now, sorry for rambling-I am so grateful to have you guys to talk to-this was just such a "dirty little secret for us)

Mystere,I also have 2 parrots. Now I know they will never learn to say "can I have my "thing yet" ":>)

I was addicted to Nyquil for probably 5 or 6 years. Like yourself, I took it to sleep.  As for the alcohol content, when I was taking it years ago it was about 25%, unless they've changed it.  I would take a capful and a half every night without fail.  If I would forget to take it, I couldn't sleep - simple as that.  I think we can become dependant on "anything", be it Nyquil, aspirin, hydros, whatever, if we take it everyday and have an expectation of it.  IMO - its probably 25% physical and 75% mental, but hell, for a lot of us it's probably the other way around.  I stopped taking it when I found out I was pregnant in '87, and remember feeling a lot of physical cravings for it, but since my pregancy was high risk, I toughed it out.  Never really went back to it.  Instead, I discovered the world of opiates and totally fell in love with those.  Fighting every day trying to rid myself of this now; doing great some days - some days not so great.  Know you're not alone in your struggle.  If this is the only thing you're abusing, maybe you could have a couple of shots of your favorite liquor, as Amber stated...although this would be trading one poison for the other, at least you wouldn't have the dose of tylenol added to it, which is especially hard on the liver.  Hope everything turns out OK.  Love/Peace, Lisabet

One of the Dr. said was an absolute must was a kind of bottled water that was sold in health food store.  It is infused with electrolytes, same as they use in Hospital IVs for fluid replacement.  He said that this would really help my system get back to norm faster and the water itself would be a key ingredient since becuase of the runs.  Just thought you might want to look into it for your reciepe.  I can't remember the name, but since I have to shopping I will look for it.  It was sold at Wild Oats, I am not sure if Whole foods would have it.  It was kinda joke that they made a funny "Electrolyte flavored" !  Don't worry folks, it takes like - water!

Guys, why can't I ever post a question? It is always full and then I feel like I am butting in on someone's conversation.

Anyway-GOOD MORNING SUNSHINES!!!!!!! Day 6, here we go, dogs have peed, pooped and eaten. B4 my had to get high first! You all may want to punch me in the nose now but, I am singing that song, I can see clearly now the pills are gone! hehehehe (I can sing because there isn't anyone home to punch me) :>) Hope everyone is well! VICO-good for you, that was FANTASTIC, I don't know if I could have called them back and told them to never give it to me again! You are soooo strong!

I slept like a baby last night full 8 hours, NO valium, NO nyquil, but did have 3 beers (oh, my gosh-sue me) before I ate dinner, then watched an hour of TV. And the rest just came. Did have bad dream- someone cut off all my curly hair and I was running around freaking out- I am nuts, I can't blame that on the pills though. hehe

On a thread below someone asked about going CT or tapering,AND having to go to work. I took a week off after I  started to taper. I/We tapered before then for about 6 weeks from 6-8 a day down to 2.5 a day on first day of vacation. I would highly recommend tapering-especially if you have to work. But I am NO expert, I will leave those suggestions to the experts out here-read all the posts, the Thomas receipe DOES help!

Hope you all have a great day! We will see how long the energy lasts today, still taking the vitamins but the "toilet runs" are gone!

Hippee, where do you get you inspirations? That post about it is not what we are addicted to but why we are addicted was great! (not exact quote)

Good morning!!! That wad of cotton that's in your brain, clouding everything and making it hard to think will give way to clear thinking in a week or so.  This is Day 6, right?  THAT IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!  The worst is over, sweets, as far as physical W/D.  I had the same, muddled feeling--I had to really concentrate just signing my name....LOL I wasn't at work, which was a blessing for me, as well as any customer who might have had the misfortune of coming into the pharmacy......That could have been the RX from hell.....:-) "Here's your birth control pills, Mr. Smith...." LOL  Hang in there, Gracie!! Both you and Rick are doing SO WELL.  I am proud  of yas.....

I will play the Johnny Nash song even if Rick won't hear it (I'm at a small station  on the MN border).  But, GET THIS: the call letters are KVIK---I **** you NOT.  Nicknamed: KVIKE.  HAHAHAHA!! I didn't even notice it until Pammy0690 pointed it out to me.....Here I was thinking "Vike" as in MN Viking football team. What a riot!! And ever so appropo as vicodin was my DOC.  So things DO happen for a reason. I have a million KVIK bumper stickers for all you addicts out there.....LOL

Keep up the good work, Gracie.  You're on your way, chica!!  Best wishes--Peazy

That is truly a riot about the WVIK. On man, damn what a trigger for thoughts-he, did you see my post? We were posting at the same time. I am so glad someone is out here this morning, the mornings were the thoughest as that was when the first  and only "true Wooosh" of the day came any more. But you guys are so correct with your info, everyday gets better,if you just keep hanging on! (that is tough in and of itself) But it does! Look at Ms. motor fingers here! :>)
