I've painted myself into a corner with this heroin addiction. I snort and have been doing it on and off for 4 years. The longest I've stayed clean is 8 mos and then 6 mos. Now I've been using for the past 8 mos. and cannot seem to stop for more than 2 days! It gets harder and harder. This disease is progressive for sure. What can I do? I really feel like it will NEVER end. Help!

Dear needhelpnow,

Don't give up on recovery, I was into narcotics oxycontin, morphine, & all kinds of pills. I started to snort oxy's ended up taking massive amounts I'm 49yr F chronic pain patient. I was getting drugs from 2 different doctors, Doc shopping, ran out of meds doc's pulled my pharamcy records, cut me right off of drugs!!! Well now my insurance won't cover detox from opiates, I was forced to do the "COLD TURKEY BLUES" thought I was gonna die. It has been a little over a month clean now, and I still have problems but it gets better everyday. I will pray that you will have the strength to do battle w/ the Dragon for it is misery!!!!! E-mail me if you want to talk. You are in my thoughts.

I appreciate the words. I feel like someone who I was is lost forever. I did everything without fear and lived incredibly in many countries etc. Now I'm reduced to a scared, helpless child. I feel like I cannot win this battle, even though I know I can...I keep putting it off and know what is waiting for me when I try to stop again. How did this progress so wildly out of control? I really appreciate this forum because I dont feel so alone in this. I'm shooting for this weekend stopping. I know it sounds stupid but all I can do is keep trying.

I am in the same boat as you and I know exactly how you feel.It feels impossible to be "normal"agian but you know,it can't be impossible plenty of people have overcame problems just like ours so don't give up!!I have to constantly say that to reassure myself too.I am trying desperatly to a 2 year oxy habit and I'm not likin' it a bit.I've cold turkey'd twice and tapered once and obviously it did'nt work so I've got an appt. with an addictionologist next week in hopes that I might get some help.Anyway,I just wanted to let you know that your not alone and I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.E-mail me anytime(***@****)            GOOD LUCK!!!         TOBIE

heroin is my drug of choice. IV, now i have hepatitis C :-(

i OD'd on heroin just before christmas and almost died, actually, i hear that i DID die but got brought around by CPR, i wouldn't know as i was not "present" at the time.

i have been in inpatient treatment 13 times. the longest i have stayed clean is 8 years. i have had some horrific withdrawls coming off of dope... but when you play with fire...

i have been clean five months the 24th of this month. after i OD'd in december i ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks with pancreatitis. gave me alot of time to think about things.

withdrawls suck ass... they do, there is no changing that. but there really isn't any other way to get clean without going through the agony of withdrawl. i have seen something called the "thomas recipe" on this board and it really seems like a god/dess send. see if you can get someone who has it to post it. then get your butt into some sort of support system. NA or something. if you are allergic to NA check out the work sheets on this board in the smart recovery section. and post here a bunch and get support here. get all the support that you can. you will need it. and remember, we are just as sick as the secrets we keep. that one has kept me honest more than once...

there is another forum where some folks hang out at, if you are interested in it email me at: ***@****. it is different that this type of forum in that it is much simpler to use! not as pretty as this forum but you can post all you want! no waiting in line, lol!!!

good luck!

peace,

amber

You can do this man..with the help of the THomas recipe, people and a treatment program...inpatient, outpatient, Smart recovery or Na/ AA as i have done.  AS you know...the drug use is only a symptom of our disease so quitting is just the first step in your quest to be free!  This disease took over my mind and my life... i am learning how to think and be functional in life wihtout turning to a quick fix.  I too was very successful..but lost it all in the depths of my disease.  Now i am learning wut really counts in life.  Love is all we need.

E-mail me if ya like.

Yo all!  I'd like to add something to the "Thomas Recipe" that REALLY helped me a lot.  Try adding a GOOD calcium/magnesium supplement -- one your body can absorb.  I actually used the name brand "CalMax" -- you can buy it online.  You can start taking it before you actually detox.  There's been a lot of research about addicts and low magnesium levels.  I took a dose of the CalMax and actually felt a difference in my aching muscles in about half an hour.  For females especially, I'd reccomend taking it daily, anyway.  If anyone else has used this, let me know how/if it works for you.  Peace to all...

It works great. When I was hospitalized recently for my back pain the only thing they found deficient in my bloodwork what my mag levels, which they gave me a pill for.

Good idea, thanks for sharing.

Chezz2 -- Thanks for replying.  Let's try to get the word out to people.  It's been known for years that people who drink heavily have very low magnesium levels -- looks like it's the same for other abused substances -- it really zaps the magnesium out of your system.  I was reading an article written by an MD that only treats addictions with natural remedies -- he actually gives people intravenous magnesium for 5 days.  It seems as if the muscular discomfort is the worst wd symptom for a lot of people -- this may give some people the edge they need to get through it.  I have noticed a difference between diferent preparations -- calcuim and an acid need to be present in order to absorb the magnesium properly.  CalMax has the calcium, and also vitamin C.  I tried another preparation that worked, but it didn't taste good (vinegar was used as the acid).  I haven't tried taking separate supplements (calcium, magnesium and vitamin C), but that probably works.  My understanding is that calcium gluconate is the best form to use -- but others disagree -- it works for me, so I'm sticking with it. Also, don't bother taking more than 500 mg. of calcium at a time -- your body can't absorb that much -- divided doses are best. Take Care All.....
