Slight pain under lower right rib in the gut area

by The Hobbit, Dec 21, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 26 year old, 189lb male who runs 3 miles most days a week. Hello all and thanks for listening :)

So I have been abusing vicodin for a little while now, probably around 2 years. When I say abusing, I mean, in the last few months I have abused the most (3 pills in an hour most days) since I started. At first it was 2 pills every French class! Boy did I used to be high from 2 pills—not anymore! I take the 5/500's. Now I realize that whatever way you look at it, I am abusing, but is 3 pills a day really going to be that bad for me? Now I only take them on the weekends when I can get them since I am married, moved out from my old place, thus away from the source. I think about them often, but have never experienced any bad withdrawal symptoms or any bad physical symptoms at all TBH—that's why I always thought it was the perfect drug. Since last weekend though when I took 8 in two days, I have this pain in my lower right rib cage, right where the liver (I think) is. Have I been taking enough to damage the liver? There is so much written about acetaminophen and it's effects on the liver. It is stated, often, that 2000mg (that's 4 pills) is when you need to be careful. I don't often take 4 pills in a day as to not reach this limit, but is this number worthless if I am taking 3 almost at once? I take 2 simultaneously, and then a third after 15–20 minutes. I read that some people are on 30 a day, and this amazes me beyond belief, but am I still doing damage? That Monday I went to work there was blood in my stool. This has happened about 3 times in 2 years.

Hey how you doing.

I am sorry to say but hooked is hooked. As for the blood in the stool, be me I would see a Doc. It is not the pills. Have a good one.

Pain under the ribs denotes a gall bladder attack, you may want to look at what you ate. It may not be the pills. see a doctor if it happens again.

Hey, how are the pains today? Did the subside? My daughter just had an attack of her gall bladder and is having surgery on the 17th. What you said was the same as what she went through, so how are you today?

Regarding the right rib area....yes, that is where your gall bladder is located.  I know because I had intense pain there and had to have my gall bladder removed the next morning.  You really should be checked for gallstones if it continues.

On the other hand, when I went off of Norco, I had pain right below my right rib cage and my left rib cage (ir switched from side to side) for several days.

My experience...for what it's worth.

Thanks for checking up everyone :)

It's completely gone now. I had a theory that maybe it was constipation or gas pains? I do get pretty constipated from the pills and I know that vikes play with your gi system. Just out of curiosity, would you be able to feel pain if your liver was getting damaged? I have heard that there are hardly any nerve endings in our glorious organ, so there is no way to detect? Any ideas? Can the vikes damage the gall bladder?
