Am I addicted?

by DanielleLeigh, Dec 27, 2006 12:00AM
Hi everyone. I am new to this website and I came acrossed it today when I did a search on the internet for vicodin withdraw. I need to know a couple of things. I have been taking 10mg/325 vicodin (up to 6 a day) since December 6th. I took my last pill last night. Am I addicted to these? I tried to not take my last pill last night but when I was laying in bed I felt like my body could not relax. My legs and arms were "achy" and twitchy like. Is this normal for withdraw? I want to know what I am in for, since I have no more pills and have no taking one yet today. I feel fine right now and I usually feel fine all day long until its time for bed and then my body gets achey and weird? Is this normal and how long can I expect to have this happen? I am 26 years old and have 4 herniated discs and 3 ruptured discs in my back and I am in pain. But I would much rather be in pain then be addicted to pain pills. I need some help. I need to know that you are all here for me. What can I do to ease the withdraw by myself? I do not want to see a doctor for help. I want to do it myself. Please help. I am dreading going to bed tonight because I don't know what is going to happen and if I am going to be able to relax. Any suggestions would help. Thanks everyone!!

In my opinion, you are not an addict.  Using hydro for a few weeks is not going to make you a pill head.   You will more than likely experience a few withdrawls, but very moderate (if any at all).

Congrats for recognizing their life altering qualities and stopping them before they stop you.

Trust me, they will change your life for the worse if you stay on them for any length of time at all.  I've been addicted for about 3 years now...it really sucks.

Don't worry, you will be just fine...

Thank you! I was getting pretty scared. I don't want to be on pain meds at all. My husband and I are trying to have another baby and I figured I better get myself off of them before that happens. I was taking hydro before and I got pregnant in September as soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking them. I miscaried on Halloween and it seems like an easy way to "make myself happy again". Starting to take the pills again really sucked.

I really hope that I can get off of them without any withdraw. I don't really have much of a choice since I don't have any more pills anyway.

Thanks for your comment.

It sounds like Restless leg Syndrom which happens mainly when you go to bed and night and your legs and feet drive you nuts.  Its hard to put how if feels into words but I have had this for years try taking Advil.

The above offered good insight. About all I can add is a light sleeping pill, like Lunesta. Take them for about a week, maybe even 5 days. U will be fine. Or a hot bath before going to bed helps sooth those aches and pains long enough to get to sleep.

I my opinion, as well, I don't think you were on them long enough to be addicted.  I had been mostly on Norco for a year and a half and then over six months straight.  So, what you're experiencing may not be withdrawal.  So, a plus is you didn't let yourself become addicted.  But, you should also see a doc for the symptoms.

hello.  just came across this website and it seems very helpful.  my dad has been taking pain pills for about 8 years now.  he's mostly taken tramadol and loritab.  he will take 50 to 60 pills over a 2 to 3 day basis and then not take any for about 3 to 4 weeks!!!  my mom just kicked him out for the 4th time because of the lies and deceit.  she wants and has offered help but all he does is lie about it.  any advice?  i really want to help him.

hi... you may get lost in the shuffle down here since you added on to an old post.

if you don't get any feedback, create a new post and i'm sure some peeps will give you feedback...

in my opinion, there's not much you can do... you should talk to him, offer help, etc.  but at the end of the day, he has to really want to change.

good luck... i know it's hard.
