swallowing problem

by memphis, Jan 21, 2007 12:00AM
Ok i am a 26 yr old smoker.  About six months ago i noticed a rumbling sound in my chest after i would swallow liquids which then turned into swallowing saliva as well.  I have no trouble swallowing, just get this rumbling sound in my chest after the liquid or saliva reach my chest. I am thinking it could be from mucus, i clear my throat alot but i have been doing that pretty much since i started smoking and i never had this problem till now, i have been smoking for eight years.  Obviously the more i smoke the more its there and the less i smoke the less its there.  Of course i am nervous about it now everytime when i swallow which i have read from other questions could be a factor.   I dont have a cough or pain or pressure in my chest or anything like that really.

You could have an infection in your chest, or maybe bronchitus, there is another forum for respritory that may help, this forum your in right now is a drug abuse forum. You could go through the posts in the respritory forum, but sounds like you should see a doc for this, never had something like that myself. But it does sound like an infection to me. Dont wait go to your Dr's as soon as you can, better to be safe than sorry-Tweety

Why not quit smoking? It's surprisingly easy.

Most of the habit is habitual, not addiction. Simply pretend you have a cigarette in your fingers and go through the routine you use to inhale. This has to be studied and practiced first. Then when you can duplicate it precisely, you quit completely. When the urge strikes, smoke without the cigarette and blow out the phony smoke (now air) It will give you pure relief for up to two minutes and as you continue, the relief becomes longer until as if by magic, you have no need for this crutch and even quit it.

I quit using this method and I smoked 3 packs a day every day for 34 years. I quit cold turkey and never suffered for a second. Been off 16 years now and never give cigarettes a thought.
