I need withdrawal help

Can anyone give me some help. I'm new to this. I was in a severe car accident that left me with 3 herniated discs and an annular tear in my l4-l5 disc. I have been on narcotic treatment for about 18 months. I was on methadone for about a year, and by the time I stopped it I was up to sometimes 80mg a day. I would take percocet for breakthrough pain, but I had a huge tolerance (I would take at least 3 10/325's at a time). Because Methadone would absolutely unexpectedly make me wasted sometimes, I decided to switch, so I started taking OC. I went into see a pain specialist, and told him that I was taking 60mg of OC a day, but that it really wasn't doing that great. He decided to keep me on that dosage anyway (telling me that it was "a hell of a lot of Oxycontin anyway") However, I really need about 100 mg I've found to feel able to function (go to school, walk, work etc.) So now I am out 10 day before my next fill. I feel like I'm going to die. I can't get out of bed. My skin is on fire, I have a migraine. However, I'm scared to tell anyone, even my parents because they'll take me off OC, and it works better than anything I've ever been on. Anyone here had a similar experience? Any tips for calming withdrawal symptoms? Should I just come clean? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for moving your post up. like i said valerian root helps with sleep as well as anxiety. the HYlands restful legs tabs from walgreens help with the restless leg feeling. also there is something on here called the Thomas recipe if you do a search for it it will come up has been posted here many times.
are you trying to quit taking pain meds?? or are you trying to take them without abusing them?? just trying to get an idea of your situation. lots of people here were given meds for medical reasons and then abused them. welcome lilboyblue... anything you need just post

Welcome to the site........

Sorry to hear of your troubles..
Unless you want to go into W/D's you will need more meds.
You have been on serious pain killers for a while. Your body is building a tolerance. Addiction has started and it will demand stronger and stronger, more and more.
Your about to enter the world of Addiction.
there is no magic wand, you body needs meds or it will betray you.
Look how you feel now, unfortunalty you now are at the decision point. You can feed the addiction or starve it and get away from it.
They both have bad immediate problems, but if you look at the long term goal if you get off the meds W/D's will stop and you can then find alternatives to treat your injuries....
If you need time to prepare you can always go to an ER and get a script but you probably already no that.....

good luck what ever you do..

People are here to talk to........

This is a difficult thing to go through on your own...Your parents probably have some idea what's going on so I think it may be easier for you if you come clean with them...they can help support you through this. I am a mother and I would hope my child would tell me. I've been through it and I would do everything to help ease my child's discomfort. It sounds like you are struggling so maybe they can get you into a detox center or at least help you at home.  You may have heard about the Thomas Recipe that has been posted several times and also, like Fladdict said there are other things to help you with lack of sleep (Valerian Root) and drinking lots of fluids/gatorade.  We are here to help you so please keep posting and ask questions, we'll do our best to help you!

I'm trying to take the meds in the right way. I can't function without them, my back is just too bad. I've tried many many other remedies (shots, nerve blocks, etc.). I really want to take these the right way, but I admit that I have developed a tolerance. A big problem is that I am young (early 20's) so I think a lot of people look at me as just some sly guy trying to get high. I don't know what to do. This has happened one time before (with methadone) and it got so bad that I tried to kill myself. My mind goes insane. I know that I am addicted, but I want to treat my back the right way. I want to be able to go on walks and I know I'll never be the athlete I was, but I want to be able to just function.

Have you tried surgery?

My neurosurgeon said he would do anything, including long-term narcotic treatment to push surgery off. I would need a three level fusion, which is not only risky, but at my age would pretty much guarantee 3 or 4 fusion as I grow older. I'm closer now though than ever to doing it.

well you have 10 days til your refill.. you are in the begginning of cold turkey. i would get some Immodium lots of fluids.. be prepared to take hot showers and baths.. look up the thomas recipe and head to your local drug store to get supplies. they can make you less uncomfortable. also you have 10 days to come up with a plan to take your meds as directed. maybe meet with your doc or talk to your parents about how they can help. we are all here for you just post away.. you will get through just hold on..

Yes, this is the first day without. I've heard it only gets worse though till like day 6 or 7. What do you think would happen if I just called my doctor and told him?

if you called him and told him i would think he would understand that you took a few too many this month. i wouldn't think in your situation he would cut you off or anything. maybe this will prove that your dose isn't working for you and you can explore other options. thats just my opinion though.. i do wish you the best. and i feel for you being on day one of cold turkey.. it will pass. some feel better after 4-5 days..
