Living with a withdrawing addict. Need help please

by lovinggf, Feb 25, 2007 12:00AM
Hello everyone thanks for any time and considiration of my guestion in advance. My boyfriend and I have been together for one year and he reguarly visits this forum.  He is a really wonderful guy and I love him very much.  He has recently cut down and has almost quit the pills.  I have no dought in him that this will be a thing of the past really soon.  But everyone wants to talk about the bad side of drug addiction. What if I said he is the sweetest thing in the world while he has taken a few pills.  I am not saying by any means that I want him to continue using.  I am saying that he is an buthole while he is going threw the withdrawl symtoms.  And to tell you the truth he is kinda of a jerk sober period.  I do not in anyway appove of addiction and would not take care of someone and deal with someone who gave me any drama from addiction.  But the strange thing about him is that he is the perfect boyfriend stoned.  Of course he does not have to work in the winter months and really has no responseability at that time.  SO know he has to get sober for his job and my life has become a living HHH! Can I make him see that his head is a little screwed up right now and his emotions may be due to withdrawel.  How long does it take for someone system to get free of everything?  I really hope he calms down anyway.  Is it posible that some people need meds to be normal?

yeah we are a holes when we are coming off meds.. no he doesn't need pain meds to act normal. although that is a lie we tell ourselves. some people need other meds like anti depressants to act mormal he may be self medicating with the pain medicine.

he should start feeling more human after 5 days. the emotional stuff and the cravings then kick in. he will need your support.

Let me get story straight.  He has not actually taken pain pills for a couple of weeks.  He is now on a half of a Subuxone daily.  Which I guess I still consider this a mood altering chemical and I really dont think he believes that.  Never the less he is now off the pain pills for a couple of weeks and I am very proud of him for that. But still worry about his emotional state.  Dont know if what he says he really means right now.  And he was on alot of pain pills for a few months by the way.
