What to use for Percocet Withdraw???

Good day all, I am new to this forum and this is my 1st post here.  I have been taking percocet for almost 2 years now and I am now up to 15 to 20 per day.  I am taking this medication due to 3 disc herniations in my neck after falling off a ladder from 10 feet right on to my head and many bone jarring occurrences from playing competitive sports.  Many specialists said I am very lucky the ladder accident did not paralyze or kill me; thank god it was not my time.

Just to give you a little background on me I am an engineer and maintain a very high level of responsibility with my job and I feel I function well without many issues from the meds even though I am on such a high dose.  However, I have gone to many doctors seeking help with my back pain and because it is in my neck there is very little that can be done and if they all have said if they did operate it would make things worse.  Now I am the type of person who when I hit my thumb with a hammer or cut myself it does not hurt me too much but the pain in my back is unbearable at times and makes me want to cry some days (probably slight depression).

Yesterday my wife and I went to visit our doctor after many discussions about this to let him know it is time I want off the percocet because I know it is affecting my body and even though I am taking a high dose it really does not help much with the pain.  I can take 4 pills at a time and within 2 to 3 hours the medication has worked its way through my system and I feel I need to take more.

I am looking for advice on what to use when coming off percocet.  I would really appreciate your help understanding what it out there to minimize the withdraw affects because I know is not very nice coming off this stuff and that is saying is nicely.  There are a few medications I have researched and the one that looks promising is called suboxone.  Again, any help or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Take care and thank you...

Moneray,
Welcome , it seems you have done some research and thats great, taypering works for some people before cutting it out all together , Then others like me find I had to go cold turkey . others have used subox and it has worked for them. If you go CT or typering, there will be WD, we are here to help and answer questions or just listen .

Welcome to the board!!!
It will be a tough 5-7 days with the physical withdrawal and you will find after that it will get better a little each day. I am not an expert because unfortunately I have not made it past 7. There are many people here that can help and support you day and night. Congrats to getting off the pills and moving toward recovery. I understand it is a nice place to be and well worth the fight. There are great tips here about recipes and other information to help with the w/d's. You will find the support here unbelievable and the people amazing. I wish you the best and look forward to your posts.
Sending warmest wishes your way,
Mariyah

It took me a while to read through all this morning, so I hope your still around to read this.  I am currently taking Suboxone after a long and hard addiction to Oxycontin (same med as perc).  I will be happy to share with you how it has worked for me.  I have been on for a month and have weaned down twice.  Let me know if your still around, and we can talk.  sincerely, M

P.S.
You're going to need to take several days off work for the final w/d.

P.S.S. What has happened is that you have formed a chemical dependency on this drug, which happens with opiates. You are now in the same boat as recreational users--both are ADDICTED. You will meet both kinds of people here--and it really doesn't matter how we got here, we're all in the situation, facing w/d, and trying to stay stopped. You'll also meet a few non-addicts who are watching this drama from another perspective, one your wife might benefit from hearing about.

Thanks all that have replied I must admit I did not think I would get replies this quick.  With regards to suboxone I am not sure it is available in Canada which is where I reside.  I am in Ontario and have to look into what medications are available to me here.  I look forward to hearing more replies and once and for all kicking this stuff.

With repsect to a plan for dealing with the pain I have in my upper back.  I am once again going to hit the gym and starting with light weights and swimming hoping it will help with the upper back pain I am dealing with.  I am not sure it is going to help but I have to start some where and this seems to be the most logical area to start.

Take care,

Glad we could help. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.

Other alternatives to consider: Yoga for Back Care (Look only for classes specific to this purpose).
Also: find a good (recommended and certified) Pilates instructor. Qualifications are important here because some people take a weekend course then claim to be PILATES Instructors. NOT!!! It takes years of training. A good , experienced one can really, really help you.

Welcome. You are in the right place, and will recieve a lot of suggestions, solutions & support. SKip the drama, though--there will be some and you will know what I mean when you see it. It's just the nature of these forums.

Just hang around and keep posting.

Off the top of my head:
