I've been on 8mg subutex 3 times a day and 2mg klonopin 3 times a day for 5yrs. I have had no problems but I was a heavy user of both opiates and benzos. I stopped using heroin and got onto methadone which was what got me hung up on benzos. Xanax was my choice so I try to just use klonopin now. When I first switched to subutex I was using xanax bars with my subutex but I can't control those as well. I was always short so switched up to klonopin and can get by most the time.
There are so many things to consider, but yes, subs where intended to be used for a short time. Hence, there is no scientific studies for their long term use or effects. Do your research to avoid precip. withdrawals. Look up COWS scale online and read some success stories. In the meantime try to taper your use. I have many questions, but suggest you start your own thread, so more people with more experience will come to help. You posted on a question from 2007, and a lot of new experience and info are out now. Good luck and I'll look for your new post.
hi there. you seem to know alot about this stuff, i wanted to know if its possible to get of heroin with only afew days of suboxone use. I went to a detox facility once and they gave me small doses of sub for three-four days. by day five i was in great shape. however, they gave me a script for nalaxone and at my inpatient place they gave it too me too early and i went into withdrwls . do you think it will work if i take it for a few days? i dont want to get stuck on another drug

Have you been a long time user or abuser of opiates, i.e., percocetts, roxicetts, morphine, etc.? It is very difficult and extremely unpleasant to stop taking the opiates on a cold turkey basis. I had prescriptions for morphine, percocetts, norco's. 5 straight years of usage. Actually 3 years of taking the medication as prescribed, and I lost control of my usage. Also losing my family, almost my job, definetely my self-respect.
Got on suboxone for a 6 week period of time. Suboxone supposedly closes the neurotransmitters in our brains that like to soak up the very likeable opiate medication. Started with 8 mgs. a day for 2 weeks. Went to 2 mgs. in a.m. and 2 mgs. in p.m. for two weeks. Then i went to just 2 mgs. a day. After 6 weeks I was free from the cravings of my favorite drugs - all the opiates. It worked for me! It's a bit pricey. About $650.00 or so, and you have to find a doctor that is licensed to dispense suboxone. supposedly, it's highly controlled. That's my experience. Now I'm working on getting my family back.
what is suboxone? im on subutex is it the same?
Im on suboxone and xanax i get 45 bars a month its great b/c im tring to get off suboxone. good luck with everyone out there.
I guess this question is now moot! at least for the weekend. How a few hours can change things. Im about to post to u above to ask ur opinion. Thanks for getting back to me about this thought, It's good info to have.
sincerely,
Tracy
Hey, I know its scary with the Xanax and the Suboxone, I took 2mg of Suboxone at 8pm the other night, and 12 hours after that I took a Xanax, And im not dead, atleast not yet!! ( KIDDING) I dont think I had enough of it in my system to hurt me, My doc said it takes atleast 5 Suboxone pills to FULLY get into your system so I guess Im okay. Yesterday I took 3 Xanax and I slept, and I was fine. I checked in with my pharmacist and he told me it was fine to take a half a Xanax even 4 hours after the SUB!! SO its safe for people who HAVENT used it, like me. I couldnt stand to be on the SUB because I couldnt take it and I was having extreme panick attacks (Panic Disorder runs in my family) thats why I stopped the SUB. Just wanted to share that with you all!! <3

Muscle relaxants should not interfere with suboxone or subutex. They do not depress the central nervous system like benzodiazepines and some other types of anti-depressants and sleep medications. Just make sure with your doctor b/c suboxone has so many interactions.

i will look for your post... i don't really have any one to ask.. about the doc.. no one except my hubby, and a friend know about my problem.. So if you could check out the site and the info there I would appreciate it.. its only 475 dollars for the 4-5 day detox.. hubby said he can pay for it.. I can't afford to do much else.. except keep tapering the pills.. I just feel that the Sub would help me.. even if its just for 4-5 days.. i have this overwhelming fear of "Quit Day" this could take some of that away.. it has more structure.. and they offer meds to help the symptoms when you stop the Sub.. clonidine etc..
thanks again for your help and kindness..
well it sounds like you have got everything very under control. You're doing a tremendous job with your taper. It's just fine to skip a couple weeks going down but you made sure not to go back up so you are definitely on the right track here. If you were a patient of mine, you would be one of the few I talk to my husband about as a "model patient" (of course I could never mention your name;) I will look through his website and ask some friends and fam. if they have worked with this doc. before k?
I'm going to dinner w/husband and the baby right now so I'll check it when I get home and post back to you under this thread ok?
xoxo- D. Hey!! I didn't ramble this time.....cool!
i feel better now.. like i said i take the xanax very rarely.. for panic attacks or for when I absolutley can't sleep.. a script of 100 .5 mgs pills last me 6-9 months.. this doc only does a 4-5 day detox with the Sub which is what I was interested in.. I have been tapering my hydro for a while now.. i just want to be DONE.. I am getting married in 3 weeks i want to start over.. I have not increased my taper dose since I broke my toes since then i have not gone up only down.. I have skipped a couple weeks and not gone down but never back up.
I figure by then i will be down to 2 pills a day and can do the 4-5 day taper with the SUb and be good.. physically anyway..
how do you feel about this???
the doc's website is tampabaydetox.org check it out and tell me what you think.. thank you very much
Aside from suboxone just being approved from treatment in 1992, this is one reason that so many people are on methadone treatment and so few on suboxone or subutex. You very well may be able to continue xanax if you take it rarely, you DO NOT want to risk withdrawal from a benzo. You will have to discuss the xanax use and trazadone with your doctor very carefully. You should be able to take your trazodone with suboxone safely. Tricyclic anti-drpressants work differently than narcotics and benzodiazepines.(in my last post I was not thinking-when I said you have to go off traz. and xanax. Trazodone should be fine, taking xanax intermittently should be fine just as long as the doctor knows ALL of your health history. My husband has patients die on him all the time b/c opiate withdrawal is severely dangerous in unhealthy people, even more so with benzos. And we've both had patients die being on suboxone and benzos not properly being monitored b/c many patients will take so many other meds w/o a script or with a script from another doctor that they don't tell the other doctors about. I'm really trying not to ramble today (not working) I justreally want you guys to be informed and very careful, we all get much to careless disregarding warning labels b/c we know they are over cautious, and b/c we have mixed drugs that are not supposed to be mixed, sometimes that is how it happens- we get comfortable then BOOM, something goes horribly wrong and I would HATE to see anything happen to any of you!

i was doing some online research and all I have found is that cases were found that they interacted if taken IV.. I can't find anywhere that is says you can't take them.. it just says talk to your doc make increase the effects. I am not really concerned about the xanax I am more concerned about the anti depressant..
Does this also include muscle relaxers (flexiril)sp? I have a flexiril script from long ago and have been taking it for the last few nights due to a smasm in my leg. They never mentioned this specifically but they did mention the benzos so I was just wondering when I read your post. I don't want to take it tonight if that's the case. Thanks as always for your help, Dutchess.
love, M
So should I stop even thinking about doing the Sub detox with the Doc here?? its only 4-5 days.. would be the end of my taper.. I don't take the xanax often however I take the Trazadone every day 100 mgs at night.. can I stop taking it to go on the Sub for those few days?? I would worry about my anxiety if I stopped it.. How do people go on this when they are prescribed other meds?? i don't understand..
No you won't be able to continue xanax or trazadone on sub. It happens sometimes, in certain cases that you can but you have to be monitored very carefully by the doctor. It can trash your liver, stop you from breathing( its a cns depressant-spinal cord and brain) especially on the part of the brain that controls breathing and heartrate. Benzodiazepines & narcotics can increase the risk of severe drowsiness, severe breathing problems, and seizures. SOme HIV medications should also not be taken with soboxone and hepatitis symptoms can be severely aggravated. This is another reason to consider methadone treatment for many people, being that a very large percentage of the heroin addict population are HIV &/ or hep. C positive and are also on benzodiazepines and tranquilizers for depression or other problems. 98% of my husband's caseload at the methadone clinic are HIV AND hep.C positive. Most of the others are vicodin, morphine, codeine abusers.

yeah no kidding. Everyone's biologocal makeup is different. The warning labels are very over cautious because of legal liability. I've taken a ton of stuff together that is shouldnt also, but my body was very tolerant of the things i was on. On the other end, I've watched patients die b/c of things like this. I've had over 5 patients die from miing suboxone with benzos b/c they figured "no big deal" Often times a bad reaction occurs when you have not given the body enough time to get used to something.
xoxo- D. (making a special effort not to ramble today like I always do;)
Why is that?? Just curious.. I was condidering Sub.. i take Trazodone for anxiety at night.. (used to be Lexapro) and I take xanax when i have panic attacks.. not very often,, 100 pills last me six months or longer..wondering if I could continue if on Sub
Hi D.
Some of us have taken so much of everything all at once that it seems it is impossible to kill us... no death wish here but geeze, everything I've done vrs. what has been told to us seem so rediculous that I don't even pay attention to the little signs on the bottles anymore. I have had 10X10X10 everything they have warned about.... just me though.... there are some people that can die with an overdose of alcohol.... usually in college before they even get up and running so I am the other end of the (probably dumb) spectrum. If you're in college, remember that not the time to test youself dead...
Ah rambled, Love
