Addiction to tramadol

My husband has a herniated disk in his lower back.  He had been going to see a specialist.  He now is ordering tramadol online and is taking at least 8 50mg tables a day.  He complains of constipation and night sweats.  He is always sweating.  He becomes aggitated very easily.  Can you please give me a list of signs of dependency?  He is currently spending 200-300 dollars a month on these tablets.

Congrats for deciding to quit!

And I know tapers are a better way to go and easier on the body.  I'm not sure your taper needs to be that long though.  You might want to check in with a Dr. and let them determine the best route for you?

Either way - I'm glad you've decided to quit.  Good luck to you!  :)

Hey dr Julie been on 800 mg of tramadol per day for about 4 years now.  I want to taper down and I thought if I just reduced my dose by 50. Mg per day for a month then another 50 mg. For a month etc... Wouldnt I be able to avoid side effects that way?

thanks for the info.  I have been researching this.  I know he takes 2 tablets most of the time.  He does have a severe herniated disk but is afraid of surgery.  We recently went through some heavy arguments where he said he is not happy with everything in our lives. I need to get him to acknowledge he is using this drug way too much.  I have talked to a family member who is a counselor.  She is aware of how hard headed he can be.  Is there anyway to get someone to admit they are addicted without driving them away.  I have never gone through this and am feeling lost.  I don't know what to do and am feeling like I am the one who is going crazy.

Yeah, I've never heard of anyone taking that much (as prescribed).  It is a tricky drug and in my opinion a weird one.  It is addicting physically when it doesn't even give the high of narcotics.   I think I heard someone say that if it is taken in large doses it can give the euphoria.  I have always heard that 200-300 mg is the usaul dose per day.

Does he want to stop?  Does he acknowledge the symptpms?  If so, he can start tapering the amount he takes.  There are others here that know more about it.  Duchess would know.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted on how you and he are doing.

Oh... when I read your post red flags go up!

It sounds like he is in denial & going through some withdrawal symptoms:

sweating
headaches
muscle cramps
pain everywhere
irritable
fatigue
night sweats
restless leg syndrome (specially at night)
can't sleep
depression

Also, I have 2 herniated discs in my back...that is where my whole problem stemed from.

Is DR writing him scripts? If so and he is out & buying online that would mean he is taking way more than perscribed & he has or is beginning a problem.

Can you somehow count his pills & see how many he takes a day?
