I woke up in pain..

by FLaddict, Jun 29, 2007 12:00AM
I woke up about 30min ago with my neck in terrible pain. I could barely move it at first. When I stretch my neck I get muscle pain down the middle of my back.. My head feels like I drank a bunch of champagne... which I didn't. I am supposed to be at work in 30 min.. but I called and said I needed some extra time to get around.. I can't miss work..  We need the money plus i will get in trouble missing this close to a holiday.  I am freaked out.. My neck pain has not been this bad since quitting the pills.. It scares the hell outta me.. I had even tried getting into the chiropractor yesterday with no luck.. and they are closed on fridays..
Sorry for venting... I am just freaked out about this.. so soon after quitting the pills.. Its been 15 days.. well its been 25 days off hydro... Yikes.. I know I am strong but I had no idea it was gonna be like this..

XOXO

Well that sucks!

Wish I had a magic whatever for you, but . . . . .

Keep in mind that you're very early in this Recovery.  You shouldn't expect to be back to "normal" yet or even soon.  It really does take time and, as they say, "time takes time."

Try all the usual stuff - OTC pain med, hot shower, massage from husband, Ben Gay, etc.  Some of this may well be caused by the cessation of use - 15 & 25 days out your brain is still adjusting to this "new" life style and it's feeling taxed in everything it does.  Sleep patterns are off, pain thresholds are out of whack --- everything is still out of alignment.

PLUS, I alway found that every time I was making another quantum leap away from active addiction, that the Beast really seemed to dig it's claws in and really fight to maintain its position.  It was like it was screaming that it refused to be pushed back any farther.  I experienced that about every 4 to 6 weeks for just over a year - then the frequency started a steady decline.

Also keep in mind that waking up feeling like ****, with a sore neck and back is something that happens to "normal" people.  It's just part of the human condition, not a sign from the Universe that YOU must have and cannot survive without opiates.

Praying for you..................

I'm just about where you are with W/D and it takes me about 30 minutes every morning to just get moving.

As far as the job...I always found it best to show up at work...let people see my distress...then, go back home.   Folks at work see me as a real trooper, trying to get my work done dispite my ailment.

Good luck and keep in mind, recovery is a gradual process, not a sudden event.  I've been down this road before.  There are a lot of pleasant surprises as well as unexpected mysteries.

i had a bad day yesterday with my back, very uncomfortable all day, better today so far.
my guess is that our natural pain killer come and go while we start to get well, and that the reason i started taking pills (my back injury) was legitimate.

i see my chiropractor 3 times a week religiosly.

if i buy 12 sessions at a time its $30 a session.

it helps a lot.

sorry you are in pain...that sucks.

have you tried the 800 mgs. of motrin, or something of the like yet?   i hear alot of ppl posting that they are amazed that it really does help and they are surprised they didn't have to take a pain pill.  your anxiety can make it worse too...so try and calm down and take some motrin or something and see if you feel better.

So sorry you have this neck problem, I really feel for you. But I think Lizzie's suggestion with a large dose of OTC-painkillers is good - because we addicts tend to think that normal OTC doesn't work when we are used to the strong stuff. My sister, who is a doctor, has always said that the combination of paracetamol and ibuprofen is a good painkiller. I really hope that you will make it without being tempted to take opiates, remember all you have been through to get where you are today. But I know that it is hell having pain, when you have to work, etc. I hope that you get an appointment with the chiropractor and that you soon will feel better. Hang in there and take care.
