Allergic Reaction to Alcohol?

by daedal, Jun 13, 2006 12:00AM
I've been having weird symptoms for the past year or so. After a night of heavy drinking a year ago. I woke up with this pain in my left arm. Whenever I would raise my left arm, I would feel this sharp pain that I would feel from my armpit to the middle of my arm. I wasn't sure if it was the alcohol that was causing inflammation or what. My left shoulder would also feel inflammed and soar. And whenever I would lift it up, a bone seems to be cracking every time I lift up. It hurts as well when it cracks. I would take massive amounts of omega3's to lower inflammation, but i think my body built a tolerance to them and inlflammation wouldnt get any better. Also sometimes my lower left and right side ache from time to time. Very weird and sporatic symptoms. Another thing that happens when I run for a small period of time, I get this pain that feels like its next to my heart, It usually comes within 20 seconds of heavy running and if I continue to run, the pain gets even worse.

I havn't drinking anything for the past six months and these symptoms have proceeded. I don't think alcohol is the problem, I think it aggitates more than anything. Was wondering if you had any suggestions or anything that would help the inflammation.

Alcohol is not the cause of your arm problems.  Alcohol can cause muscle relaxation and contraction, but I don't think that is your problem. You cannot get an "immunity" to Omega 3 oils.  Omega 3 is not an anti-inflammatory by itself, but can act as a "booster" to some anti-inflammatories.  If your shoulder is inflammed, the skin will be somewhat warmer to the touch than the other shoulder. I suspect you either pulled a muscle or tore a ligament in the shoulder.  See an Orthopedist and get an xray.  Orthopedists and radiologists look for different things on an xray.

My boyfriend has an extreme swelling of his underarm pits. They sweel up and are extremely painful to him. They burst and ooze out nasty substances. He is very clean so lack of hygiene is not the problem. Someone tested it and said it had high amounts of alcohol in the growth. His deoderant contains alcohol as all deoderants do. He uses triple anotibotic cream and peroxide to try to heal the open sores but its not working very well. What do you recommend?

anyone.. i have experience extreme arm pain after drinking different types of hard alcohol.  this last time was so excessive it put me into tears!  I am normally a tough person that can take pain, but it felt as thought my bones were growing at a rapid rate...kind of like growing pains... I experienced this off and on since I was 19.  I am not 30 and worried about how bad it has become.  I believe that it is something in cheap alcohol...like anything in a plastic bottle or boxed wine...  has anyone experience this or am a freak of nature?

help!  my arm feels like its going to pop off...oh usually either arm, but this last time it stayed in my left arm until the following day.

no drinky drinky for me....

I have been experiencing a similar thing.  Mine usually starts like 20 minutes after I wake up and will continue all day long.  This is is usually regardless of quality as I usually stick with name brand liquor and quality wine.    I have not experienced this until the last 3 weeks.  Not one problem with this since my first drink at 16 through 29.  Now I am getting it at 30.  Mine is also sometimes accompanied by a carpal tunnel feeling in the wrist as well.   I noticed it will taper off as the week continues but once again the weekend starts and it starts all over again.
I went to the doctor about this and he related it to anxiety, but a nurse friend of mine said it is a pulled shoulder/back muscle and it gets worse after drinking due to the relaxing effect alcohol has.  That is why it doesnt hurt during consumption.

It does hurt badly though!!!
