Sinuses, ear problems, and dizziness

by cg77, Sep 09, 2006 12:00AM
For the last 4 months I have been suffering from sinus pressure, headaches and slight dizziness. I experience what I believe to be a sinus headache at least 5 times a week. About 2 months ago I had a horrible ear infection. I didn’t go to the Dr at first but when it still felt sore after a week I went. She prescribed an antibiotic and my ear stopped hurting. However, when I go running it feels like there is still fluid behind my ears. Also, sometimes I hear a ringing in my ear. Furthermore, if I turn my head quickly, climb up stairs, or sometimes just walk I'll get slightly dizzy. I went back to visit the Dr. and she said that my ears looked fine and that I should continue my allergy medicine and over the counter pain reliever. I am starting to get concerned because my allergy medicine doesn’t seem to be helping. I was wondering if there is any medical ailment that involves all three of these characteristics so that I may discuss it with my Dr.?

Sounds like it is sinus infection or inflammation to me. The sinus congestion can shift, and you can feel fluid type feelings in your ears, and then it can shift throughout the day and they feel OK. The headache, dizziness, and ear problems are all probably sinus related. The fluid left behind in your ear from the infection and can take a while to go away. I have had that problem too, and it drives you crazy. Especially when you have to fly, it will totally clog your ears. My daughter has a systemic autoimmune disease, and as part of it she has severe sinus disease. She has had 5 sinus surgeries in 4 years. She does just like you describe, and unfortunatley the longer it goes on, the less the meds work, or even surgery for that matter. Her dr told me the congestion in the sinuses can move all over during the day leading to pains and feelings of fullness in differnt areas at differnt times. A nasal steroid may help some, if you are not on one you could ask. One of the best things all the sinus drs will tell you to do is sinus rinses. You can get them over the counter. You can get a solution, or just use normal saline 2x daily, and blow your nose really well afterwards. Hope that helps.
