Allergy to fresh lemon juice?

by borninquisitive, Oct 12, 2006 12:00AM
Two days ago, I drank freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon in large glass, filled rest of way with water)and afterwords, in looking in my mouth: saw what appeared to be numerous, tiny, clear "blisters" on my soft pallet. These were easily wiped away with my finger and was left with a clear, sticky substance on my finger.

So, today...I tried the same and the same occured. This time, I had a small glob of this clear, sticky substance on my tongue too.

Is this a food allergy?

No pain or swelling (that I can see) involved.

It sounds like an allergy (or intolerance). I know I had a friend who used to get these "dents" in her tongue when she ate tomatoes.

Just in case anyone else experiences this. I spoke with a dentist who informed me that this is quite normal.

That there are numerous, secreting salivary glands in the palette that protect from injury and lubricate the mouth.

Phew. ;-D

We must have been posting right at the same time;-)

No pain or swelling was involved, so am thinking the dentist is correct.

Makes you want to run right out and try it...huh...NOT. lol

I think I can tolerate the lemon, only  because after tonsil removal, my taste buds never quite went back to normal.

Look up Oral Allergy Syndrome. After a similar reaction to fresh pineapple recently, I'm sure that this was the cause. How's everything else?
