Same old sinus/allergy problems

Seems we got locked out of our last forum - is everybody still the same?

Gosh, was there a limit to the number of posts in the other forum?

Anyways, I heard about a girl (friend of a friend situation) with severe sinus problems. After going through the same hell we are all experiencing (tests, many doctors, no results, etc.) she found some specialists in Germany. They found out that her sinuses were filling up with liquid and had to manually drain them. She has to do this at least once a year apparently, but she can now function.

I don't know the details of this too much; but the point I am trying to make is that it really is a matter of finding the right doctor. But to get there, I guess we all have to go through the routine checks, experimentation with different medication, etc.

Hang in there.

I didn't know there was a limit to our posts either -- I was afraid we'd never be able to continue and find out if any of us actually gets over this.

I think you're right...a matter of finding the right Dr.  I'm beginning to think we just have to cure ourselves. Had face pressure again last night and balance wasn't quite right.  Early in the day I was normal.  I get tired fast.  May be my thyroid-which I'm supposed to go back for blood work this week again, but may have to wait until next week with work and all.

How are you doing?

Glad you started a new thread!  I think they close once they hit 50 comments.

I was on Zithromax starting 11-24 for 5 days, but it lasts in your system for 10 days.  After about 7 days I started feeling much better, and here it is at the 11th day or so and I'm still fine.  The last round of antibiotics helped me for about a month, but I'm hoping this will last longer of course.  I also started garlic pills (odorless) last week, but I have seen such differing research on garlic I don't know if it really helps or not.

Because the antibiotic helped for now I haven't tried an ENT yet, but if symptoms come back I will call them first.  Hope your symptoms get better, the dizziness and pain can be completely intolerable.

Gosh, I think I must be cursed!  I've pulled something in my back now and I'm usually pretty tough!  I can hardly get up and down...and still having the same face pressure on top of that!

I was really hoping that with the weather getting colder, this would slowly wear off. But no such luck; I still get stuffed up, my heart starts beating really fast, my blood pressure fluctuates, and I find myself dizzy as hell... I had an mri of my brain done, and it came back all normal (which was expected I guess, given what I have been reading on these forums.) Now waiting for the results of the ct scan of my sinuses.

Something I want to check with everyone: do any of you also have tachycardia? I am starting to think that my dizziness is caused by tachycardia; of course what is causing the tachycardia is another thing. For the past 3 months since I have been suffering from these symptoms, my resting heart rate has been between 90-100bpm. I am really starting to wonder whether there are multiple things going on with my body, tooth or sinus infection, rhinitis (which limits my breathing and therefore increases the heart rate), allergies, etc. rather than one big disease.

I did get a prescription for ativan in case I am making things worse by panicking about the dizziness. Now I feel drunk but am relaxed about it. The only problem: I think people are starting to think I am actually drunk!

Hope everyone is doing better.

I do get the heart racing up in my throat until sometimes I cough to try to make it quit - I've always blamed it on panic disorder or even like a bronchial tube thing - because I have no clue what's causing it either.  The less you do, meaning being out of shape, no exercise, the faster your heart rate seems to be, which with all this I am sure out of shape since I haven't felt like doing stuff.  I don't get dizzy when my heart races like that though.  I find I'm more dizzy when I'm tired.  I had my blood work done on my thyroid and should hear next week on that since it was elevated 11 points before, meaning it was slow.  They said if it was still like that I'd have to go to a specialist.  Which that can cause heart problems I understand.  Since I turned 50 recently I am falling apart.

I have never had a real big problem with my sinuses until this year and I want to see if anyone feels like I do?  This problem started about 4 months ago.  It started with the slight feeling of being dizzy, also one side of my nose stays stopped up almost all the time.  I have alot of drainage, but it all goes down my throat none can be blown out.  I have been to the doctor 2 times who says that it is my sinuses, but it still worries me beacuse he has given me amoxicilin but it didnot even touch it.  I have this thing to where I always think of problems as bigger than they are.  So my main worry is, and I know that it may seem crazy but I am concerned that it may be a brain turmor.  I have read all the signs of one and I know the main one is really big headaches but I rarely even have small ones.  I guess that I am looking for someone who can ease a troubled mind.  Thanks

If you've read the other posts we've all had same/similar symptoms.  Don't panic.  I also thought I had a brain tumor or lukemia or something.  3 rounds of antibiotics didn't help me, and if you read the forum they've all taken more than one round.  Seems sinus infections are becoming resistent to a lot of antibiotics, my dr. told me.  Prednisone (steroids) finally got me on my feet...and now I'm on Singulair, a prescription, but also NasalCrom which is over the counter, and using the saline nasal rinse every day, and that has helped tremendously.  Also using an air cleaner in my bedroom.  I also never blow anything out!   So....I'm not a dr., but try the saline rinse and NasalCrom, and maybe see if that helps.  I found this forum out of desparation, too.

I've had the same symptoms as you've described (pressure in head, dizziness, anxiety, etc) and wanted to share some things that helped me:

First off, being diagnosed with a sinus infection is a 50/50 bet at best.  My allergist told me recently that you diagnose a sinus infection by the symptoms, and that there is no real way to tell without getting a sample of the sinus fluid.  A team of doctors did research in which they took samples of sinus gunk from a certain # of people, and only about 50% of the people showing symptoms of an infection actually had an infection, and the other 50% that had an infection didn't show any signs at all.

Anyway, I started getting allergy shots after a million different tests/doctors (heart ultrasound, EEG, EKG, etc).  This was ultimately the thing that helped the most.  I found that my dizziness was directly related to the amount of pressure I felt in my sinuses, and that the further along I got in my shots, the less pressure I felt and the better I felt.  I also started using Nasonex, which I believe helped also.

I stopped taking allergy shots 6 months ago, and recently have started feeling the dizziness again.  I got a pretty bad cold last weekend, and have been VERY dizzy.  I'm scheduled to go back on the shots in an effort to ease the dizziness this coming spring.

If you have allergies, and your dizzy from sinus pressure and congestion, seriously consider getting allergy shots!

by JamesH, Dec 21, 2006 12:00AM
And I forgot to add:  I was not a depressed person before my previous episodes, but this condition has made me very anxious.  The allergy shots helped a lot, but in certain situations where my blood pressure might be elevated (giving a presentation at work, for example), the dizziness presents itself.  Its a very frustrating feeling.  For those with anxiety, I don't think your anxiety caused this (although I'm not a doctor)...I think its the other way around.

by LMND, Dec 22, 2006 12:00AM
I agee, as I already had panic disorder.  I think the symptoms we have makes our anxiety worse!  I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.  I will seriously consider the
