How do allergies show up on a CT scan?

by stacia123, Feb 02, 2007 12:00AM
Hi again... still struggling to figure out what's wrong with me.  The ENT insists I don't have sinus problems or a sinus infection, based on an x-ray taken about 2 weeks ago.  There's no fluid in my ears and so the ENT wanted to just send me back to the GP who thinks nothing is wrong with me.  I guess neither of them think anything is wrong.

But my cheekbones hurt, my throat and ears hurt off and on, and I've got a metric tonne of mucous.  I'm not imagining this.  So I asked the ENT again about the allergist he said he might refer me to.

Suddenly I find out HE is the allergist and that he doesn't think I have allergies because they "didn't show up on the CT scan".  His secretary couldn't explain what that meant.

However, I've had seasonal and dust allergies for at least 20 years.  Only now suddenly the ENT says I don't have allergies because of an old CT scan, and I don't know why.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

I don't believe allergies can show up on a CT scan. It sounds as if you need a new doctor!

Yeah, I think so, too.  He also said he wanted to refer me to a neurologist, and again the secretary couldn't explain why.  Actually, she's a nurse's assistant as well as a secretary, so she should be able to answer these questions.  It bothers me that she can't.

I can't believe how difficult it has been to get a doctor to even acknowledge I have something going on.  After years of allergies and sinus infections that other doctors have diagnosed, how did I get two doctors in a row who don't even believe I have a problem at all?  Don't they hear me coughing and sniffling and sneezing?

I am so frustrated, I can't even begin to describe it.

go to the allergist and say you want to have an allergy test. I think its called a allergy skin test. the ct scan just shows if any fluid is backed up in your sinius cavities.
