Since you're waking up in the morning with a runny nose - that sounds like it could be a dust mite allergy (due to your bedding)... easy to fix with covers...
I wouldn't recommend Benadryl personally because it makes me/others I know VERY drowsy... I find a 24 hour claritin or claritin-generic (CVS or WalMart brand) works wonders... Your allergist will point you in the right direction.
