Generic yellow xanax bars

by PrincessTaper, Jan 30, 2007 12:00AM
Is it just in my head or are the yellow xanax bars weaker and not as good as the white ones? I find they are different somehow.

I doubt that they'd be any different.  Did you receive a different dosage?  I remember loooong time ago (nearly twenty years) when I first took Xanax, it was yellow.  I didn't need it again until now... and it's white.  I believe the white one is the generic brand (alaprazopam...or something like that...haven't got the spelling!).  If you're really concerened about the effectiveness, I'd check back with your doctor.  It may put your mind at ease.

Be well!

I always find the generic isn't as powerful as the true drug. But the generic is covered on my plan and it is much cheaper for those who have to pay out of pocket. Just my opinion.

I was told the opposite was true, the yellow 2mg bars worked better than the white bars, If you realy want the brand name and have insurance, the physician can write on the script at your request brand name medically necessary, If your insurance does not pay for brand name your could be looking at $100.00 or more in the difference, But you do have a point my M.D. claims generics are 30% less effective than the brand name drugs. Something to think about.

The yellow ones are time released.  The white ones are not.

It is a Federal mandate that ALL generic drugs must be passed by the FDA to be constituted EXACTLY as the name brand. (If you are buying your Xanax from Mexico, I'd be concerned!) This includes their potency. For those of you who feel the generics are not as effective, you have been misinformed or are just imagining a difference.  Many drug companies now produce Xanax in the generic form which is called Alprozolam. When I switched pharmacies a while ago, the color AND shape of my Alprozolam was different. A simple consult with the pharmacist assured me it was exactly the same. And to notmenow who was told by your doctor that generics are 30% less effective than name brands, I think he needs to take a refresher course in pharmacology! He's not been keeping up to date with his reading in the JAMA! 30%!  Sounds like he/she is firmly in the pockets of the drug reps and their perks if he/she insists on prescribing you only name brand meds. YOU pay more, THEY get more kickbacks. It is indeed SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT!
Generics manufactured in this country are 100% as potent and 100% as chemically identical to the name brand. Ask ANY pharmacist since they are not allowed, BY LAW, unlike doctors, to accept any sort of kick backs from drug companies. When a pharmacist recommends a generic to you, they are only trying to save YOU from being ripped off by the major drug companies and YOUR doctor!
