can anxiety create my symptoms?

by dj8, Dec 01, 2006 12:00AM
I had a risky sexual encounter using  lamskin condoms and having sex twice . The next day I had chills. a couple of days later after I developed thrush. At the eight day mark I was experiencing nausea and light headedness. I though for sure I had hiv. All tests came back negative. The viral load test was sensitive to 400 copies and came back negative. specialist told me that eight days post exposure my viral load should have been extremely high so it was probably not hiv related. I also had an anitibady test at the 23 day mark which came back negative. I have also experienced apin in my lymph nodes and where my spleen is. Have seen many doctors who say there is no swelling in lymph nodes. Have also been extremely tired. Wanted to know if these symptoms are alike anxiety or CFS. I have already been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and am taking Klonopin for that. Everyone says it doesn't seem like hiv. Is this anxiety or cfs? What should I do?

Anxiety can definatly affect health.  Your symptoms cannot be due to hiv, since your tests were negative.  It could be anxiety, but if it persists you may want to figure out what else can be going on.  It isn't hiv, though.  So forget that.

The tests that I had would be valid and reliable even though they were so early. At the eight day mark for the pcr test. And at the 23rd day for the antibody test? The doctor told me it was likely not hiv but I have not been able to find  any data on the reliability of these tests so early on. It would appear that they are ulta sensitive tests though

i had the same kind of thing happen to me excpet im testing negative out to 16 months and im still phsyco  over it and it has completely taken hold of my body and yes stress and anxiety will do all of those things to you. dont let it take ur life over, try to trust the tests, and on the hiv websites they say that the average person has detectable antibodies by 25 days. so again im telling you to not let it take a hold of your life.

Thanks for you input. So you do think the tests that I had could be considered a valid indicator? I have also been looking into CFS which also seems to fit a lot of my symptoms. I am still terrified though. Because even though my symptoms for tyhe most part match cfs with the exception of the thrush I experienced 2 days after aexposure. I am trying to sort through this. One thing I don't understand is why there isn't more concrete data out there on how valid certain tests are after exposure. And if they are not valid then why give them . I discussed this with an infectious disease specialist Dr. at Mass General and she said because I tested negative at the eight day mark without symptoms then they are probably not hiv related what do you think. Are you atill experiencing any symptoms?

the only thing that is holding back from getting over the hiv thing was the case of thrush other than that just stressed out and have the occasional period where im weak and shaky my doctor says they are panic attacks and then im fine. everywhere i have read says a test at 1 month is almost conclusive
