by magen7984, Mar 19, 2007 12:00AM
I just wanted to know if anyone else gained weight by having panic attacks. I have gained 40 pounds in 3 years. Just wandering if anyone else had this problem

No, in fact I always lose a bunch of weight when I have an anxiety flare-up because I can't eat, I'm fidgeting all the time and my heart beats really fast when I'm anxious.  Maybe you are eating more to try and comfort yourself.

hey,
yea i totally gain weight- most peoples appetittes go down i guess but mine flares up and my activity level goes wwaaaaaaaaaay down - i cant do anything usually. Its tough but i try and eat healthy and  exercise when i can- it actually usually helps you. ITs tough but its good to atleast give it a shot.

I'm the same way...my activity level goes way down.  I gained about 20 pounds in 2006.  Then I got so bad over the last month that I essentially barely ate for three weeks.  Lost only 10 or maybe 15 pounds.

When you eat less and don't exercise, you metabolism slows way down.

It all depends if you turn to food for comfort or get totally nauseous from your anxiety and can't eat at all..It must be one of your defense mechanisms to help you out!

Well, 40 pounds in three years is a lot, but if you look at it another way it's slightly less than one pound per month.  Becoming more sedentary and not changing your diet to compensate could easily make you gain that kind of weight.

I did the same thing from about April last year until about this February.  I wasn't diagnosed with anxiety/panic until winter.  Now I'm going to try to make a few lifestyle changes.

To: panic attacks
I have been exactly where you guys are.

My weight increased by 100 pounds when I used to have panic attacks.

The panic got so bad that I wanted to kill myself to escape the horrible feelings.

I have written a little booklet about what happened and how I cured myself without drugs. I give this away free of charge to anyone who suffers from anxiety. Oh, by the way, it has nothing to do with religion either!

Download it free here:
