Anafranil for Anxiety and OCD

by MariAAB, Dec 20, 2006 12:00AM
I've been on Anafranil for OCD (and anxiety) for about 7 months.  I've experienced some of the typical side effects.  I get dry mouth, constipation, ringing in the ears, massive weight loss, low blood pressure to the point of almost passing out when standing too quickly, etc. I've learned to deal with these symptoms because the Anafranil has gotten rid of about 95% of my OCD symptoms.  That's a welcome tradeoff!  Is it possible for other side effects to develop after being on Anafranil for a while?

Hi Marie.  I'm not sure about the long-term sides of Anafranil, but I'm sure (as with all meds there are some that could possibly happen).  I think what's important (and absolutely wonderful) is that the Anafranil is controlling the OCD for you.  Because of this, I wouldn't see any reason to weight the possibility of any long term effects from the Anafranil against the return to a great quality of life this drug has given you.

Best of luck, and Happy Holidays!

Thank you, and happy holidays!  Some of the side effects of Anafranil have actually been beneficial.  Since I started taking it I've gone from 145 lbs to 115 lbs.  The funny thing is, I didn't want to take the meds because one of the possible side effects listed is weight gain.
