iS THERE ANYWAY TO EASE THE PAIN OF VALIUM WITHDRAWLS?

by mikosan, Apr 24, 2007 12:00AM
aFTER 10 YEARS of spinal surgeries I became extremely anxious and was precribed 40 mg. of valium per day along with pain meds. Is there anything to help ease the suffering of withdrawls of valium?

The only easy way would be decrease the dose by 1 mg every two weeks. This is an extremely slow method of withdrawing the Valium. The process takes close to one year.

Valium has two metabolites, Oxazepam (short half-life, and short duration of action), and Nordiazepam (super long half-life, about 200 hours).

Removing 1 mg every two weeks allows for both components to be withdrawn very slowly.

The problem with removing Valium abruptly is that you will not notice the effects for many days, perhaps even up to two weeks. Therefore, it is essential that the dose be reduced very gradually, as to avoid withdrawal phenomenon.
