Zoloft and anxiety.

by thomj513, May 04, 2007 12:00AM
Well, I'm now on Zoloft, actually the generic version.  See my other posts regarding Buspar, Celexa, Prozac etc.  Dr started me on a VERY low dose of 12.5mg ( 1/2 of a 25mg tablet).  So far so good.  No buzzing in my ears, extreme tiredness or drowsiness.  Hopefully this will continue when I up it to the 25mg dose next week.  Anyone else have positive results with this medication?  Thx again, Thom.

Hey Thom,
I recently stopped taking Cymbalta due to the fact that it was making my anxiety MUCH worse.  When I called my doc...told him what was going on he argued with me and said "that is not possible."  I was floored.  I quit taking Cymbalta on my own cold turkey....I do not recommed this.

My best advice to you is to research the drug.  My motto is "Once you start something eventually you have to stop."  Find out what the withdrawal symptoms could be, find out what the possible side effects are.  If the side effects are worse than what is supposed to treat I would suggest searching for something else.

Me experience with an anti anxiety med was horrible.  I realize that they do help a lot of people but we are all different.  DO THE RESEARCH and ask your pharmacist what his/her opinion might be.  They are more likely to give you a straight answer than your doc.  Hang in there buddy....it will get better.

Love my zoloft! As I recall in the beginning (9 years ago), there were some minor side effects - couldn't sleep very well and, of course, the sexual side effects (or lack thereof). The sleep thing went away eventually - you need to give these meds six weeks for their full and lasting effect.  I believe zoloft to be one of the best as it has been around forever and, yes, they now have the generic form - that's how long it's been around. I think it has the proper hormonal and "tonin" balancers more than the other meds (for me anyway).

Not so sure about the new meds.  Went on Effexor a few months back to try and counter the sexual side effects from zoloft.  Gave the med 8 weeks and nearly went insane and I'm not kidding!  It was probably the most miserable 8 weeks for me, my husband, and my kids ever.

So, I quit that cold turkey and immediately went back on my zoloft.  I also don't recommend doing this, but I had to get off that effexor. Luckily, the effexor quickly left my system and my zoloft kicked back in fully within 10 days.

Best to you........
