People talk to me like I'm stupid, what should I do?

by umbleego, Dec 28, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, I'm a 20 year old male in fairly good physical health but quite poor mental health. I have OCD, tourettes and social anxiety disorder. People have been talking to me like I'm an idiot for as long as I can remember. I think this is because I am shy so people don't really get to know me, also, I hardly ever say anything in the company of people which might make me appear to be "dumb". What should I do about this? It really frustrates me and sometimes I feel like I'm close to having a nervous breakdown. I've had people that probably have an IQ of 30 or less talk to me like I'm a kid. Do you think it's because I'm shy? Or how I appear? I don't understand why this is. Any advice or help would be highly appreciated.

I would say that it is because of the way that you are presenting yourself.  If you act positive and hold your head high, then people will treat you better.  You seem to have low self-esteem and people can pick up on that right away.  Smile more and hold yourself in high regard!  You are special and worth it!  If you don't mind my asking, are you under a doctor's care for your other situations?  Maybe a good psychologist can help you with the disorders and also your poor self esteem.  Hope that things change for you soon. Please let us know!

in my not so humble opinion, you could positively avail yourself

of the medical profession with great rewards. i have friends

with individual and/or combinations of the symptoms you relate.

sometimes it is hard to get a doc to _do_ something for any/all

the symptoms but it is worth it to PUSH for assistance.

You made a lot of sense to me. Good sensible, insights and awareness. Spelling was great. Did someone write this for you because "stupid" people are not this capable?
Actually, there are a lot of benefits to being "stupid" like you don't have to be responsible for anything, after all, you are stupid. Until people realize your smart, I would get as much mileage out of stupidity as you can. Another one that has worked for me is pitiful. Wow, has that been a worthwhile perception that I have used to my advantage.Enjoy!
