Do doctors even listen?

by Soonerdean, May 18, 2007 12:00AM
I have cronic pain in both feet...I now believe it to be a pinched sicatic nerve.  I am also on doctor #5...telling each of them the same story.  Lower back pain, shoots down the back of both legs and into feet, and my feet tingle.  I get about half way through my description and you can tell when the doctor either doesen't believe me or just tunes me out.

Now...I'm not a really big guy, 6 ft..200lbs and work out each morning.  I'm inches away from putting my neurologist in his hospital.  All he wants to do is get me started on a trycyclic or SSRI...when I inform him I am not able to tollerate the side effects he really gets mad.

I have an appointment in 3 weeks to have the shot in the back...please pray for me that it works.  Am I the only one with a doctor that wont listen?  Does this make anyone else as mad as me?  I truly believe they are 50% of my anxiety.

Have you been checked for plantar fasciitis?  I have it and what you are describing sounds similar with the exception of the lower back pain.  Have you ever had your feet x-rayed?

My former supervisor had a problem with his back and plantar faciitis.  Anyway, his foot doc had custom soles made for him to put in his shoes.  The soles didn't necessarily correct his feet prob but it did wonders for his back.  The shoes you wear can really affect your back.  I wore these funky house slippers one time.  They had a thick cushion bottom but when I started wearing them, my feet would fall to one side.  I kept wearing them and I developed the worse upper back pain.  The shoes were throwing my body off balance or something.  So I chucked the shoes and my back got better.

I can imagine how frustrating it is for you.  Maybe try acupuncture if all else fails?  I heard it does wonders for some people.  I hope things will get better real fast for you.

Best wishes!

I've had x-rays, an MRI on my left foot and lower back.  Docs ruled out Plantar Fascitis as well as Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome.  The back MRI showed a small narrowing but the doc said not a lot to worry about.  I said "then why do my feet, knees and legs still hurt?"  All he wanted to do was put me on Amatriptyline...I said "HECK NO!"
