SSRI

Can anyone tell me what is the best SSRI?  I hear Celexa has the least side effects.

As with any medicine, it must be *indivdualized* for the particular patient. There is no one single best SSRI, as no two people are exactly alike.

Often times, "trial and error" is the only way to disclose which drug will be the most effective for you. There are many options in the SSRI class, each of which is unique from the other.

Generally speaking, maximum efficacy is not seen for at least 2-4 weeks in most cases (sometimes longer). Therefore, it is important to give the drug a chance to work. If the desired result is not obtained in one month, another drug may be substituted in its place.

If numerous SSRI's fail to give adequate results, the Tricyclic family of antidepressants could be considered as well.
