anxiety problems and things that occur when i feel this way

by jgoo, May 23, 2007 12:00AM
Ok ive been battling this anxiety thing for years and years i noticed it like back to the age of 12 or 13 and now im 26..urrrgghh i hate it, but anyways i know what it is, i take paxil 20mg, ive learned how to cope with but my question is, i work two jobs and sleep on average of 4 to 5 hrs four days a week and like 8 to 10 on the other three, would this contribute to making it worse, as i said i learned how to deal with it, but my brother also has it severely bad, and he cant cope with it, i mean he cant even drive alone anywhere, for awhile i got to where i didnt think much about it, but hearing him talk about it makes me think about it more, and im gettin to where i think about it almost everyday again, ive learned how to control it, but its always in the back of my mind im gonna have a panic attack, and when i have them i always focus on my breathing and feel like im gonna hypervenalate and ive noticed when i feel like this i get these like little white spots on my arms and inside the palms of my hands, like the pigment is gone in certain spots and when i calm down they are gone..I was wandering if anyone has experienced this, or could tell me what this is, and i just learned i have high blood pressure, do you think i could have got high blood pressure from worrying abou the anxiety so much and my hair is turning gray, all this scares me to death, I was wandering if anyone had any tips on what they do if they feel and get this way, I mean ive learned to deal with it but if you have had it theres always this fear in the back of your head, and id like some info from anyone that knows of any thing they do to make themselves feel better..thanks alot for your help

Well, I am not a doc, but I think you  need more sleep. When your body doesnt get enough of it, your stress levels can increase, which can cause anxiety to become more prevalent. I know exactly what you mean about starting to think about having an attack. It is always seems to be lurking in the back of my mind. When I am not thinking about it and am doing really well, I will catch myself, and then start thinking that I could have a panic attack soon. What if I am in the store? What if I am in a restaraunt? Then I dont want to go anywhere. When I start to get that rushing feeling, I immediately start talking to myself saying that I am ok, it is just anxiety, and nothing will happen. The feeling usually passes within a few minutes. I want to learn how to not get to this point though. If you find a way, please share!! I am not sure about the white spots you get on your hands. I know when you have anixety/panic attacks, the blood rushes from all parts of your body into your head. I think this is why I get dizzy sometimes.

YOu said that the meds you were on were working before. Do you think you might need your dose raised a little bit? When new things/stress comes into our lives this seems to disrupt what we have worked so hard at accomplishing. We might need a little bit of extra help. Best of luck to you!!!

You have to change the conversation with your brother...I know that he is suffering and you want to help, but I don't think you can deal with it in large doses...any one of us here can talk ourselves into an anxiety attack at any time...don't put yourself in that situation...continue to help yourself first and manage you own anxiety....it can very easily spiral out of control if you let it have its way.

well you said you know how to cope so my advice might not be anything new to you, but when i feel a panic attack coming on i either try to read something or get in a deep conversation if i'm with someone.  ever since i figured this method out (a few weeks ago), i haven't had a fully-developed panic attack.  OH but you gotta read something that won't make you think about your health lol, to state the obvious.  i like manuals because they're so boring you really have to pay attention to follow them.  and make sure you do take in what you're reading; it won't work if you're just skimming something thinking "is it gone yet? is it working? i'm reading, go away, panic attack!" nope sorry.

hope that helps!!!

I get the white spots too, and have them on my legs as well.  I've been told by dr. that it's poor circulation, and i agree with touque's suggestion.  I would just add it to your list of "symotoms", :-) !!!
