what's the best medication to help w/ my anxiety symptoms

by bil3112, Jun 03, 2007 12:00AM
Hello, I am a 24 year old male.  I have experienced some type of anxiety since I was 21.  It appears more frquently when I have the chance to be in a relationship with someone.  I have been in a relationship with my girlfriend for over three months now and I still get anxiety symtpoms when I'm not with her and when I first see her.  My symptoms are I get a sweaty forehead, a nausious/vomiting feel in my stomach, and when I wake up a rapid heartbeat with these same feelings.  It's gotten to the point where I can't get a good nights sleep.  I saw a doctor and she prescribed me on zoloft 50mg.  I started taking these pills for about 3 days and have felt miserable having no sense of appetite and a more severe case of nausea.  I told the docotr about it and she put me on xanex for sleeping at night and told me to stop taking the zoloft.  My question is since there are many medications for anxiety relief which ones would anyone recommend that I can start taking without having such miserable side effects.  I know I have to give the medications at least a few weeks to feel the effects and that all medications have side effects but are there any medications that anyone can recommend which would make me feel less nausious than othersand if so what dose would you recommend me starting at since I am 5'8" and weigh about 130?
Please Help.

Hi there.  I suffer from anxiety too and have been questioning medications also.  I posted this thread a few days back and got a lot of useful information.  Thought I'd post it here for you to refer to.  Try to destress your life by cutting out caffeine and sugar.  Everything is going to be fine!  Take Care!

Thanks, I just went to the doctor today and she recommended I try klonopin.  She told me to take one in the morning and one at night along with taking a lexapro 10mg at night as well.  I will keep this forum informed of my progress and side effects I may be feeling because of the medication.

Great.  Sounds like you've got a good plan of attack!  Hope all is well.  I'm still on the xanax until my prescription runs out.  Then I'll switch to the Klonopan.  Just want to be sure my transition to the new drug goes smoothly.

Here's a thread I started a while back with some excellent info about Klonopan from Ryan, who seems to be very knowledgeable.
