IS IT ANXIETY?

by TEAMFLARE, Jan 03, 2007 12:00AM
I CAN FEEL MY PULSE THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE BODY WITHOUT TOUCHING MYSELF, I SHAKE ACCORDING TO MY PULSE. WHEN IM LAYING DOWN, EVERYTHING IS WORSE, I WOULD SHAKE MORE WHEN I LAY ON MY STOMACH. THE SHAKING HAS BECOME VERY SCARY BECAUSE I DONT KNOW WHATS CAUSING IT. ITS WORSE IN THE MORNING WHEN I JUST GET UP. ALSO, I NOTICED THAT I WOULD START SHAKING ALOT RIGHT WHEN I AM ABOUT TO FALL ASLEEP. I HAVE TO SLEEP ON MY BACK WITH MY HEAD PROPPED UP WITH 2 PILLOWS TO PREVENT THE SEVERE SHAKING THAT I WOULD GET WHEN I AM LAYING FLAT ON MY STOMACH OR SOMETIMES BACK. ANYBODY UNDERSTAND WHAT IM SAYING WHEN I SAY I SHAKE ACCORDING TO MY PULSE? ITS LIKE I CAN LOOK AT MY HANDS AND DETERMINE MY PULSE AFTER A MINUTE... PLEASE HELP ME AND TELL ME WHATS GOING ON!!!!!

Funny, I was just on the web trying to find something about this about an hour ago. I don't know what it is, but I can tell you I feel that too. I can feel it in my whole body and I am riddled with anxiety right now. I had what I believe to be a full on panic attack the other night and it scared me to death. Maybe it's because I am anxious about my physical health and am more in tune with every little thing going on in my body? I hope someone else has some ideas on what causes this, but I just thought I'd let you know I feel it (and see it) too.

Anxiety can cause your muscles to flex more than normal, including your heart.  It can feel like the bed moves with each beat sometimes.  Try to breathe from your tummy for 5 minutes.

I think this site is good for help joepanic.com

Good luck.

I notice the pulse-like thing when I am still for the most part. It's most noticable when I am trying to sleep. It has kept me awake several times over the last weeks while I was lying down trying to take a nap.

I experience this same symptom.  I can sit at the desk chair *like I am right now* and look down at my shirt and see my heart beating ... it really freaks me out.  When I lay down to go to sleep, its like so loud I think the whole world can hear my heart beating.  Its kind of un-nerving because you think.. is it going to stop beating?  I know what you are feeling.  Its complicated.  I have good and bad days with my anxiety.  Today is a not so good one.  I've been kinda light headed and tired all day and had head pressure.  Hopefully I can conquer this anxiety stuff one day.  Good Luck to you!

we all should come up with a plan on beating it because we have lives, we cant let this anxiety ruin it

Hi Teamflare.  Wanted to make some suggestions.  Anyone who has a pounding and elevated heart rate throughout the day and into the night should have some things ruled out before they chalk it up to anxiety only.  If you're having a pounding and elevated heart rate like that with trembling and shaking and can't get comfortable, you should get seen by a general doctor (family doctor) and get some labs pulled to rule out the common medical problems that might be causing this kind of heart rate.  A doctor will want to do some routine labs on you.  They will want to check your hemoglobin to make sure you are not anemic  (anemia can cause very fast heart rate).  They will want to rule out any signs of diabetes (can also cause very fast heart rate).  They will also want to rule out any thyroid problems  (can cause fast heart rate). Just make sure that you are OK with your "routine labs" before you chalk a pounding heart rate like this up to "anxiety only".

There is also a very common (and almost always benign, meaning it poses no danger)  heart value condition called Mitral Valve Prolapse that many women have and are diagnosed with AFTER they complain of a fast and racing heart.  The symptoms of mitral valve prolapse are fast heart rate, usually worse in the morning, continuing throughout the day with complaints of tiredness and fatigue, too.

Regardless of the reason for a fast and pounding heart rate, there is a class of drugs called "betablockers" that have often been prescribed with great success for people who complain of fast and pounding hearts.  I know many who have been placed on betablockers for fast heart rates caused by anxiety, and they are truly new people afterwards.  It doesn't treat the cause of the anxiety, but it reduces the pounding, fast heart rate, and it helps the trembling/shaking sensation.

You might find these links interesting.

Best of luck!

my heart doesnt pound all day, its jusdt when i lay down and began to fall asleep or while im sleep, it'll happen and i'll wake up and calm myself down.. the thing that worries me is my pulse that i can feel 24/7 throughout my body and the shakiness.

by billbaggins, Jan 09, 2007 12:00AM
Yes, anxiety can do that. It can also make you "think" that you can feel it along with other things.

I felt my heart beating so bad once that I could not sleep for two days and the anxiety got so bad that my BP went up to 192/110 and I ended up having to take Xanax to bring it down.

my aniety is bad when i first get up thats when its the worst and just before i go to bed at night when i first had my first attack my b/p was normal but my heartrate was 150 i ened up calling 911 cause i didnt know what was happening to me i had just had surgery 2 weeks before and the first 2 weeks i felt great then the attack hit me and it scared the hell out of me .then after that first attack i was so terrifed i wouldnt leave my house i was put on xanax 1 mg to help and it did but i was still scared of being home alone that was feb when i got the xanax then in may at walmart i had the worst panic attack ever my b/p was 206/112 heartrate was 160 i couldnt breath i allmost passedout man i was scared out of my mind that day and i was crying for over a hr .but since then im doing somewhat better but im switching from effexor xr to zoloft starting today i sure hope it helps better then effexor i dont care for effexor for one i wanted off effexor because its hard to come off of and also it just wasnt working for me at all it did at first i been on effexor for 7 mos .sometimes my aniety wakes me up during the night but last night i slept allnight but some nights i wake up way too early and im to get up at 6am but i will get better i just have to be patient .if you have a chemical imbalance does this mean you will have to take medication all your life if so guess i will id rather take medication and be happy then be depressed and not have a life the effexor makes me not have a life hope the zoloft is better i hear it helps better but everyone is different.

Wow, I really like this thread!!! I feel trembles almost every morning. It feels like the trembling is coming from inside. It is more noticeable if I lay on my sides, and almost nothing or nothing at all of I lay on my back. More or less opposite to what I have read here, but none the less, the same.  Then I began to feel really nervous and anxious in the moring, that would subside later on in the morning.  My wife also tells me that I shake a leg while I am sleeping sometimes.

I now have dizzy (spacey) spells, that just come and go as the day goes by.

I had gall bladder surgery a year ago. Never experienced any of this until the surgery. I lost confidence, didn't want to do anything, suffered from fatique, lost wieght, etc. I have been diagnosed as having an inner ear thing (which the neurologist said can happen as a result of surgery
