PAIN IN THE ARM

by COLLIE2, Mar 31, 2007 12:00AM

I HAVE HAD UPPER SHOULDER AND NECK PAIN FOR MONTHS. I FINALLY WENT TO THE DOCTOR IN JANUARY AND THEY TOOK E-RAYS OF MY NECK. MY DOCTOR FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS BURSITIS, BECAUSE OF THE SYMPTOMS OF PAIN, MY ARM GOING NUMBNESS AND TINGLING THRU OUT MY LEFT ARM DOWN TOO MY FINGERS. AFTER 3 MONTHS OF PAIN AND MEDICATION I WENT BACK TO MY DOCTOR, THEY DID NOT CALL ME WHEN THE X-RAY'S CAME, AND TOLD ME I HAVE FOCAL DEGENERATIVE DISK DISEASE AT C-6-7. MY CONCERN IS THAT I'AM IN PAIN ALL DAY AND SOMETIMES HAVE TO GET UP FROM MY WORK DESK AND WALK OFF THE PAIN. MY ARM AND FINGERS ARE TINGLING AND IN PAIN ALL DAY, AT TIME SO MUCH I CAN'T BREATH AND HAVE TO SLOW DOWN !!

IS THERE ANY MEDICAL HELP FOR ME OR RELIEF? I'AM TAKING SOMA AND NAPROSYN.

LAST  QUESTION: I DID SLIP AND FALL ON MY TAILBONE ABOUT 5 YEARS AGE,SO BAD I WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 1 WEEKS, (I DID NOT GO TO THE DOCTOR TO CONFIRM IF I BROKE IT). CAN THIS BE A RESULT OF MY PROBLEM?

THANK YOU

Further evaluation can be considered if the pain continues and radiates as you describe.

An MRI of the cervical spine can be considered to rule out a herniated disk.  In addition, you can consider nerve conduction studies to determine if there is a pinched nerve.

Surgical therapy can be considered if herniation is present.  Otherwise, physical therapy, or a referral to a physiatrist (rehabilitation MD), can be considered if the tests continue to be non-revealing.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Wow!! I was just at the doc for the same thing and he did EKG ad then determined my arm pain and numbness an tingling in my arm is due to pinched nerve in my neck..

Napro is junk. You need a stronger medication. They put me on that stuff when I first started having pains and it did nothing for me. Tell your doc you want something stronger.
