does size of a calcification or lump have a connection with if its a cluster?

I am 44, have never had any type of lumps, calcifications or fibroids before. I have saline implants under the muscle for about 6 years. Had a baseline mammo at age 39. At age 40 got pregnant, breast fed for  for 2 years (couldnt have a mammo). SO, at 42 had a mammo again(all clear). As a rule, I dont do routine breast exams.

On day 3 of my last period cycle, I felt a momentary sharp shooting pain in right breast. That pain, prompted me to feel the area, and I felt a lump, which was tender. Since it was day 3 of cycle, I figured it was due to menstrual cycle. I waited one week.

On day 8 of cycle, I felt the area. No longer any pain there, but the beebee like lump still there. I went into my gp today, because my gyno was to be out of town for 4 days. GP said he definately felt something. But he described feeling, not the smaller round bebe like thing that I felt, but as VERY hard longish calcification. (I keep feeling it over and over myself, and there is the smaller beebee thing (which I felt), surrounded by the calcification area that the gp felt. Sorry, if it is confusing.

Anyway, he wanted me to get a mammo and an US. Now, i have to wait until the 17th to get in! Argh...

I have been reading many posts. What I am not clear on, is IF you have a "lump" that is big enough that you can clearly feel it, is it clustered? I am confused about the clustered vs scattered cells and how those terms relate to a palpable lump.

Anyway, I am glad that I found this site, it is encouraging that the majority of calcifications are benign. Crossing fingers.
thanks

I am no expert, but from what I have read, you do not feel calcifications.  Calcifications that are macro are usually scattered and are usually no cause for concern.  Microcalcifications are the ones that may be suspicious and may suggest a malignancy (Usually 80% are benign).  I am not sure what you are feeling.  I know that you are very nervous right now, but hang in there.  Maybe post on the other site where a doctor can give you a more thorough and expert answer!  Best to you!!

I have IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma). When I first found it I went to two doctors who thought it was nothing. Mine felt just like a beebee but my husband discribed it as a very small lima beam. Not to scare you, just sharing my experience. I had very early breast cancer, though I lost a breast to it. I am doing fine now well OK  now. Early diagnosis is the key. Yours will probaly be nothing but prepare yourself. Read up on this stuff so you'll have the first hand. I do wish the best for you.

suzi-q is right you do not feel calcifications. Mine were a cluster of calcifications and some were widespread. Immediate cause for concern were the clusters.
