Please help reading mammogram report

by tabby101, Jul 31, 2002 12:00AM
my report states I have an ovoid density adjacent to the marker in the region of palpable abnormality . This may represent a soft tissue nodule that could represent mass. Approrate Clinical management is recommended.

RAMAMMBI 1 ( word for word off mammogram)

ovoid nodular density measureing approximately 2 cm is noted at the side of palpable abnormality indicated by the patient in the 12 o'clock position of the left breast. Appropriate surgical manaement is recommended.

From everything I have read the last sentence in the RAMAMMBI section would put me in the bi-rad at 5 (Highly suggestive of malignancy). Am i correct in my thinking?  I'm 33 and at 25 had a hysterectomy due to cervical and uteran cancer. what are my chances of this not being cancer?

I've had a mammo and ultra sound, both sound not so good. I also have a cyst at the 1 o'clock possistion and the mass is at the 12 o'clock possition. Please let me know if I am reading the report right ...  my ultrasound comes out and notes it could represent a milignancy. Please help I am confused.

Dear tabby101:  The bi-rad score is assigned by the radiologist not done by the interpretation of the report.  From what I read, I see that there is a mass that needs further evaluation - as in surgical biopsy.  It could be a malignancy but there is absolutely no way to know this without a biopsy.
