Can Paget's inflammation occur on other parts of the breast?

by winterbaby, Jul 11, 2003 12:00AM
I sometimes develop red semi-sores on my breast - somewhat like pimples, but not really, because they do not have white heads and produce a clear substance. I received an e-mail about Paget's and saw where the rashes involve the nipple and areola area. At times these sores I develop are on the breast, near the areola, but not on it. Is Paget's limited to the darker pigmented parts of the breast? I am of African-American descent. Does the very large size of my breasts indicate anything? Thank you.

Dear winterbaby:  Paget's disease begins on the nipple or areola and is associated with bleeding, itching, and scaling.  This is something that would not resolve spontaneously (like sores).  Sores that come and go may be a pimple type process - not all pimples develop white heads.  Very large breasts do not indicate anything other than the need to be thorough when examining your breasts.
