hair loss

I am a 44 year old female that was diagnosed in August 2000.  I underwent 3 rounds of Adriamycin and 3 rounds of Taxotere followed by surgery and radiation.  I am happy to say that things are going well, except that my hair has not come back.  I have some hair on the sides and back of my head, my eyelashes have returned, and I shave my legs on a regular basis.  I have very little hair on the top of my head and my eyebrows have not returned.  Do you have any information that might help me?  I have tried several doctors, but can't seem to find any answers.  Is it possible that it is just slow or that it won't come back at all?  I would appreciate any advice you might have or putting me in contact with someone who has had a similar experience.  Thank you so much for your time.  Jane

Dear Jane, The rate of hair growth varies from person to person.  The average rate is about ¼ inch in a month’s time.  The return of hair after chemotherapy also varies not only from person to person but also there could be a varying rate from one area of the body to another (as you are experiencing).  People also notice that the new hair will sometimes grow back in a different color shade or texture.
