worried about mamo results

by Gailann, Feb 26, 2004 12:00AM
Here are the results tell me what you think. i had a spot on my breast that was kind like a bug bit the caused my left breast he have a red irrated spot. the redness went away with anti. but it left a thick spot right under the skin about the size of a dime under my left nipple if you pull the skin up the thickness comes up with the skin. Doc says she thinks it was an absess (BUT WHAT CAUSED IT) had a breast reduction done 7 years ago hard for me to beleive it was something do to that.  Abb marks the area in question.  This correlates with a small focal area of skin thickening  No spiculations, distortions, or abnormal calcification are indentified.  There is a vagu, 1 cm area of asymmetric deensity in the medial aspect of the left breast and a vague ill defined area in the lateral aspect of the right breast noted.  Ultrasound examination of the left breast in the area of the skin thickening shows no difinite defined process.  Rather there is some vague ill definition of the skin and immediate subcutaneous tissues identified.

INPRESSION

NONSPECIFIC SKIN THICKENING NOTED IN THE AREA OF THE PATIENTS COMPLAINT.  FURTHER WORKUP WILL HAVE TO BE BASED ON CLINICAL GROUNDS.

VEGUE ILL DEFINED AREAS IN THE LATERAL ASPECT OF THE RIGHT BREAST AND THE MEDIAL ASPECT OF THE LEFT BREAST. LIKELY RELATED TO PREVIOUS SURGERY.  RECOMMEND 6 MONTH FOLLUP MAMMO EVALUATION OF BOTH BREAST TO EVALUATE THERE AREAS FOR STABILITY

CATEGORY 3  PROBABLE BENIGN FINDINGS.

both of my breast hurt should i wait 6 mon. also seen surgon he seems not to be worreid  BUT I AM what could this mean

Dear Gailann:  The skin thickening you describe does not have any characteristics consistent with malignancy.  The other incidental findings did not appear concerning either.  Thus, they have given a BIRADS 3 rating to the mammogram.  So that you know, the BIRADS scoring system is used to categorize mammographic findings and recommend follow up. The following is the BIRADS scoring system 1-Negative 2-Benign finding 3-Probably benign finding - short interval follow-up 4-Suspicious abnormality - biopsy recommended 5-Highly suspicious of malignancy. So, in your case, the finding is probably benign - it has no overt characteristics consistent with malignancy. A second opinion may be very helpful to you - if for no other reason than peace of mind. You might consider a breast specialist who might be better able to ease your mind and could perform any procedures if deemed necessary (even if the purpose is solely to ease your mind).

I would tell you to have a biopsy no matter what the doctor's say.  I presented at 2 mammos as benign, then 1 year later, I had a very RARE Metaplastic Spindle Cell Carcenoma which was a Stage 2.  I now have a tiny lump above my breast and I am going to have it biopsied, even tho doc says probably nothing.  DO NOT rely on mammos when something is there

Well I dont have a lump in my breast just seen thickening in mamo.  I had a breast reduction done seven years ago and as you know it completely changes the look and feel or a normal breast. i will have it followed up in july if there is something different i will defently have it ck out what is Metaplastic Spindle Cell Carcenoma what is the symptoms.
