breast evaluation

Goodmorning I am 45 years of age and my Dr. just found a lump in my Left Breast and sent me for Mammo and Ultrasound. The results were BIRAD 4 or 5 with Suspicious Malignancy. Two lumps could be seen on both U/S and Mammo they found two masses at 5 position.

My Mother and her sister died from Breast Carcinoma.  I'm thinking positive but I am wondering what this exactly means. Should I be extremely worried I don't want to overreact to this but I realize as well 4 or 5 is not good rating. I will see a  surgeon on Tuesday the 9th and my dr. noted a biopsy is needed.  Thank you so much for listening.  I appreciate any feedback from you.

Dear lourdes8:  The BIRADS scoring system is used to categorize mammographic findings and recommend follow up. The following is the BIRADS scoring system 1-Negative 2-Benign finding 3-Probably benign finding - short interval follow-up 4-Suspicious abnormality - biopsy recommended 5-Highly suspicious of malignancy.  So, in your case, a biopsy would be necessary.  It does not mean it is absolutely malignant but it does appear very suspicious on mammogram.

Hi,

My Mamography results were 4-Suspicious abnormality.  After the biopsy the diagnosis was DCIS, non-evasive, hormone receptive.  The mamogram dx is just a flag to tell you to continue checking.  Good news or bad news, it's important to get the news so you can decide what to do.  On step at a time...

Thank you Kathy Q and good luck with everything.

Hi Lourdes8,  Sorry for my terrible spelling...  that would be "non-invasive and One step at a time"!  Good luck to you as well.  I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.
