.I am a Pre-Med student wondering what the mode of inheritance is for Breast Cancer? From research that I have done, it appears that it is a sex-limited autosomal dominant gene, but that doesn't make sense to me. Please help!

ChristineCMDDear ChristineCMD: I have spoken with our genetic counselors. Indeed the BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 are autosomal dominant genes. However, they are not x-linked. Whether or not a person develops breast cancer is more related to gender, female that is. Although, males with the BRCA-2 gene have a 10-20% chance of developing breast cancer.
